I've heard the roads are pretty good in SW Missouri and NE Arkansas. I will have a family trip to Springfield, Mo for a few days and I am considering taking the FJR along for a ride or two. It may not be a long one, as I'm wanting to ride with my nephew who has just converted his dirt bike for on road driving. I've started reading the planned trips and some past ride reports to get a feel for the area and I'm getting encouraged.

I don't have a clue what "good roads" in this area means. Does it compare with NC mountain road twisties or is it like Western Ky hills with just curves?

Paul

in-laws live near bolivar which is close to Springfield. Not good roads for curves. Mostly up and downs. Watch out for deer and rednecks.lake of the Ozarks is better.call some mc shops in the area.

Look in the midwest section for past "Hooterville/AR" rides and usually there is a route posted up.

Or check the SFO posts...

Or check the Arkansas All Day rides...

Lot of left and right to go with that up and down.

East/West - AR Rt 16

North/South - AR 123

SE MO - MO 160

Route 32 across the middle of MO ( between Farmington and Salem, south of Rolla )

is an amazing piece of asphalt.

Rivals the best anywhere.

Should be within easy reach of Springfield.

Route 160 across southern MO is also excellent.

I live/work in the Springfield area. Feel free to send me your contact information and maybe I can do some guided touring for you.

I am well versed in the Springfield area as well... I miss those roads badly.

Greg, Make sure you take him down 125 to the Ferry, And lunch at the Cliff House.

Or 248 to Galena.

Yessir, been on those and great roads. Today we're headed to Mt Nebo via 23 and whatever asphalted goat trails we can find. Tomorrow we'll make it up as we go then Monday coming back home and not sure on that route yet.

I agree with that! I'll probably do a trip report with a few pics when I get back, but I wanted to thank everybody for the good advice. 125 from Sparta, MO to Peel AR is a really great road. I did that 3 times this week. Not like mountain switchbacks, but LOTS of posted 35 mph curves that flow great at 50-55 with a 55 mph speed limit. Very few straight pieces. I don't get to have fun riding the speed limit on the FJR very often. I was on several other single letter roads that were great too, but 125 sticks out. The ferry is interesting too.

I'll have to say I wasn't as big a fan of 32 from Farmington to Success, but it had some fast long sweepers that were interesting. I'll be riding 160 east on the way home so that should be fun, too.

And I drove up on a 2008 FJR this morning on Hwy 14 between Sparta and Ava, MO. We met again at a gas station and he and his wife were doing a run of all the mills in the area. He told me he had moved here from Europe and people recommended the FJR. He said his BMW was still more comfortable for his arms but he's continuing to work on the adjustment. But other than that, he loves it and thinks it's a great bike.

Anyway, I definitely recommend the SW side of Ozark for riding. My back will hopefully be in better shape next time and I can get down farther SE into Arkansas.

Just rode down to Rogers, AR for lunch yesterday and a quick trip to Cabela's. Took 60 to 37 to 62. Great ride, great weather.
