The new FJR arrived Tuesday, but I was stuck in High Maturity CMMI training for three days. If you know what that is, you know it was even more painful with a new bike at home waiting for me.
Mrs. Hoog and I finally took her out for a couple hundred miles yesterday, and here's what I think after finally getting to spend some serious miles on an FJR.
Power: Plenty, and it's everywhere.
Handling: Very predictable and stable, exactly what I expected.
Brakes: Once I got them bedded in they work pretty good. Doesn't have the feel that the LT does though.
Wind protection: Much improved over the previous model from what I remember. A far cry from the LT, but still very good for this segment.
Ride: Smooth as a baby's ass. I could do a whole day on this thing easily if it weren't for...
The Seat: I lasted through the first two hour stint with no problems, the missus whined a little. The homeward leg was over three hours and we won't be doing that again I promise you. Wifey was starting to repeat herself, "This seat sucks, this seat sucks." The pillion is just too firm for her petite little ass (good thing we were almost home).
Fit and Finish: Very good, and I love the color. Really pops in the sunlight, looks almost black in low light. There is the one dealer installed scratch though (it will be corrected).
The Heat: What freekin' heat? Got up to 91 on the ride, and there was nothing like the heat problem of the previous model. Yamaha hit one outta the park except for the......
Whistle: Hell yes it whistles. It's barely noticeable with the earplugs in, but it's there. Maybe it'll scare the deer away.
All in all I am very pleased with the bike. It will be my first choice for one up riding.
Here's the new baby.......
(looks a lot like the other '06s)
