Just discovered seeping right front fork seal....have 12 day 3000 mile trip scheduled...cannot get it fixed it time before the trip starts..

what are the consequences of just going ahead and taking the trip anyway...any advice or information...or experience appreciated..

The consequences are that the leaking oil can ruin your brake pads and decrease the damping on that fork. I would drop the fork's oil level below the leaking seal and zip tie a wash cloth on the out side of the fork to catch any oil that is still leaking. You can at least partially compensate for the loss of damping by increasing the damping on the other fork.

SEALMATE -

Just do it.

Seal get dirty and the road spooge lifts the lips off the fork leg which makes them leak. They are still otherwise perfectly good seals.

Very high success rate and you'll wonder why other people pay (so damn much) to have their seals replaced all the time.

Cut up a milk jug and make a Sealmate!!!! What's it made of? What are milk jugs made of? Not a difficult process.

I had a 200-mile day trip where the seal began leaking sometime during that trip, and I got oil all over the bike, the visor, and my riding gear. I thought I'd gotten behind somebody with a leak at first, and found out when I got home that I was behind my own front wheel.

It appears I bottomed the forks out somewhere, which may have contributed:

On day 2 of my 5600 mile trip, my right fork seal started to leak. Seal Mate, which I always carry in my tank bag, solved the problem completely. Try it, or its milk jug equivalent, out before doing anything more extreme.

+1. Never a need to leave a fork seal leaking. Takes 5 minutes to fix.
