Bought the shiny new red '14 last month (10/7) and joined this forum the same day. Last Tuesday (11/4) rode it over to the power plant I retired from to see old friends and have lunch. While sitting inside an old co-worker of mine comes running in and says "aww Tom, man I am so sorry I just backed into your bike". With the Gradall. A large yard machine that booms in and out that you can attach multiple attachments to (forks, loader bucket, boom extension with winch) with 4 foot tires. I thought he was joking until I looked out and seen my pride and joy laying there with it's toes in the air. With the right rear tire he hit my front wheel and cowling on the right side and dumped it on the left. He stopped right away and didn't run up on it. Bike slide about 18". Progressive guy was here yesterday. Trailering it back to dealer today. Prelim estimate $3850 that will no doubt go up when they take it apart. 480 miles on the clock. This sucks...

Sorry to hear your new machine had a close encounter with something a lot bigger. One of the departments where I used to work used Gradalls, but they never traveled the employees' parking area. Hope your insurance comes through for you and your bike is repaired to your satisfaction.

Hope the Power Plant's Insurance comes through for you and you bike is completely fixed and good as new.

Bad luck for sure, and it does "suck" big time!

Good luck with the repairs!

It would have been really difficult for me to keep from asking him to go ahead and run over it again to finish it off.

:(

Sucks but better than if you were on it.
Oh Yeah !!

Won't help you any but I'll share my little story

Picked up my Gen 1 in July 2002. First FJR in Sacramento - yay!

Two up and rear ended a Dodge 4x4 in September 2002. I couldn't react quick enough to brake lights as I was drooling over my shiny liquid silver gas tank. I can laugh about it now.

Problem -- FJR1300 was new in the USA ($500 deposit and wait ! Buying, sight unseen !) so parts were not available. I waited 7 weeks for parts to be shipped from Japan.

Your wait should be shorter...................... yeah, I know, didn't help ya. But I do feel for you :-(

I hear that.. Major bummer.

Now to move forward --> find a trustworthy tech / dealership. Follow up with questions and status updates. It's your job as the customer to ensure the job is done right.

When my 06 struck Bambi, hidden problems didn't surface until years later. Stuff like hidden cracks in the front stay subframe, electrical connectors with small cracks that opened up later. The radiator catch tank too.

Stuff like this is why I say stay involved during the rebuild process. It's the stuff you can't see that will hurt you later.

Good luck,

d

I'm smelling what Wheaton is cooking (sort of....)

You have a General Liability claim with the insurance company for the plant for your property damage. I hope someone notified the plant's risk manager on the scene and you got the accident documented and reported. Not doing so doesn't relieve the plant insurance's liability, but it makes it harder for you to prove your claim. Many entities of this size and nature are self-insured. If this ship has sailed, and you have already filed a claim with you own insurance, I would strongly recommend you contact your insurance adjuster and give him/her any information you have that would allow them to subrogate the claim with the plant.

I know it's an accident, and I'm sure it will all work out, but boy - that would really chap my ass.
