This is my first post, I apologize in advance if this topic is old news to some. I am planning a trip to the New England area next week and am contemplating a tank bag. The local dealer had only one in stock and it was way to big for my taste, any suggestions?

Different subject...sorry! I sold my 05 to get the "much cooler" 06. I thought it was much cooler until yesterday, (95 degrees), and now I am not sure, anyone else? Should I open the new adjustable fairng wings or what? I can't tell enough difference either way to figure it out.

It depends what all you want to carry. I have two magnetic tankbags, one small (Joe Rocket Manta) and one large (MotoPak - Ebay), depending on how much luggage I need.

I think the fairing "wings" are supposed to be closed to keep heat from reaching you. If open, it would be hotter. Not sure, that's just the way one '06 owner explained it to me.

I too was wondering about this, the other day I changed the cowlings to the open position per the manual. BTW the manual says (3-20) "The cowlings can be tilted back 30mm for added ventalation to suit the riding conditions" Doesn't say if it allows cooler air through or engine air though....

Its been pretty hot here in SoCal, and after riding with them open and closed, I have to definatly say that I can't tell much of a difference. With gear on (helmet, pants, jacket, boot, gloves) the heat can be pretty insane. Stopped at a light, you feel yourself baking and no cowling design is going to 'fix' that. 100+ degrees makes it hard to throw the gear on, but I do anyway. A cool shower removes sweat, not sure about road rash.

I guess if I bought a smaller bike the heat wouldn't be an issue... but 1300cc... the heat has to be disipated somewhere... at least I don't have my nuts roasting like I've heard from others.

I have the Cortech "Mini" (not to be confused with the Super Mini above). I really like it a lot. It is a nice size and shape, it's expandable, and does a great job of holding a map in the clear pocket on top. Also, the magnets are enough that it WILL NOT slide or fall off even without any straps hooked to it.

I live in Houston and have done a lot of riding already in 90+ heat. Other than a very small amount of heat down by my ankles in stop and go traffic, I don't feel any heat. I swapped bikes with a friend of mine a few weeks ago who has an '03 FJR - now THAT was hot. The difference was night and day. My FJR is also cooler than my ST1300 was, and it really did not bother me.

Closed for hot weather. Open for cold weather.

I've had '05 and '06 FJRs (no experience with the slow grey ones). The '06 is MUCH cooler than the '05. I rode in 97 degrees with empty tank today with no issues at all. This was not doable without torturing the boys on the '05. I consider "the FJR heat issue" resolved.

I have an RKA and I couldn't be happier with it. No fancy bells and whistles but a rock solid magnetic bag that will never slide around or detach from the tank at speed and plenty of room for extras.

Good luck,

David

Don't forget to check out the Bagster.

Cost a little more, but well worth it.

The Tank bra fits like a glove and you can put several different bags on the bra.

Protects the tank and you get a very custom look to boot.

Have the TourMaster Cortech Super Mini Magnetic and find that excellent for all short trips. High quality, and the rascal doesn't budge an inch, even at speeds that are illegal everywhere but the Autobahn ;) .

We are in the "hot days of summer" in Virginia, and the boys are roasting a bit on my 05. I manage however! Cheers, Jay
