Is anyone attending the SW-FOG planning on arriving early? If so, from what direction or route will you be coming from?
I'm still planning on arriving 1 day early -- on Wednesday. Obviously, I'm coming from the north but haven't decided on a route. Is anyone attending the SW-FOG planning on arriving early? If so, from what direction or route will you be coming from?
Dan and Dave, At this point in time Donna and I are undecided. We may just leave her home in South Chandler at 0600 on Thursday and just ride through Payson, Heber and Holbrook to Interstate 40; then up I-25 to 68 and in to Taos. Or, we have given some thought to leaving after she gets off work on Wednesday, and spend the night in Holbrook, Arizona. Poor Donna having to work, I hate work!I'm still planning on arriving 1 day early -- on Wednesday. Duh!! I know................... perhaps your route should entail a southern direction!! :finger:I'm still planning on arriving 1 day early -- on Wednesday. :dribble: I will be going from Phoenix to my townhouse in Lakeside, AZ, on 9/14 and going to Taos on 9/15. Mapsource has a trip scheduled from Lakeside to Taos going US60 to NM36, NM117, to I40 (East of Grants at exit 89). This is about 3 hours from Lakeside. From there, Mapsource routes me to NM528, US550, NM4, NM501, NM5, NM76, NM518 to Taos. Total time from Lakeside 7.5 hours and 410 miles. So I guess I will be arriving a day early.
I'm sure your description of Donna is correct but your Tom Selleck it total "*********" :yahoo:Great News, just got off the phone with my Gal Donna and we are heading out on Wednesday evening, making it to Holbrook that night for a hotel stay. And even better yet, Donna has gotten Monday the 20th off so we can return to Chandler, Arizona by the most scenic way. On Thursday we will be on I-40 to Gallup, North on NM 491 and East on NM 64 via Chama, New Mexico. In Taos by 1500 hrs.
If you see this beautiful and fast two-tone Gen1 with a guy riding it that looks just like Tom Selleck/MAGNUM PI, and a good looking big-chested blonde on the back, that'll be Papa Chuy and Miss Donna!
And where will you be? HRZ, PM sent. Thanks for the warning. I'll call when I get to Albuquerque. It would be great to ride together. Local knowledge is a wonderful thing.:dribble: I will be going from Phoenix to my townhouse in Lakeside, AZ, on 9/14 and going to Taos on 9/15. This part of the trip will take you less than a mile from my house. It will also hose you. Instead of taking 528 to 550, take I40 to I25, take 25 north to Bernalillo and hit 550 from there. The only way to hit 528 and then 550 from I40 takes you through Albuquerque, then Bernalillo and lots of stop lights on 40mph roads. You'd be better taking Unser to 550, but its not a straight shot and can be confusing. If you meet up here, I'll take you that way, but if not, you're better off just hitting the freeway.
If you are going through on Wednesday, lemme know, and maybe I'll join you when you hit Albuquerque. It will depend on my work schedule as the beginning of the week is gonna be busy, and I don't know what it's gonna look like on Wed and Thurs. If you wanted, you could sleep here on Wed. night, and we could ride up Thursday too. We can make that a good multi-hour trip with some really nice roads thrown in.
PM me if you want...
