Me and a couple locals here in the Jackson area and one from B'ham have tentativley scheduled a ride to Tellico Plains TN and have rented cabins for the dates of 10/14, 10/15 & 10/16 at Cherohala Motorcycle Resort. We had planned to do the EOM but a change in work schedules kinda shot a hole in those plans and we had to cancel out. This is a substitute trip for minimum budget minded people. The cabins sleep 2 adults and are heated and cooled, twin beds and including tax total only 20.00 per night per person. They have private showers and baths but they are not in the cabins. We will ride the Skyway and the Dragon and most anywhere else anyone wants to go. We should be passing through B'ham on the morning of 10/14 and pick up Mikey (he just bought a new 919) and continue on our way to Tellico Plains.

Just thought I would throw this out there in case anyone may have been looking for a ride up to the mountains where this trip fit w/in their schedule and didn't want to have to do it alone. Cherohala Motorcycle Resort books early and fast during that time of the year, so I do not know how many other cabins are available for those dates, but they do offer tent camping and there is also a KOA campground available w/cabins as well. If interested post up and we'll try and hook up. Leave on a Saturday and return on a Tuesday. Of course weather forcast/conditions will be a factor. Like most, our group all work for a living and you never know things sometimes have a way of changing--but our intentions are good! ;)

donaldb,

I stayed at the Cherohala Motorcycle Resort over July 4 weekend. Mark and Renee are really fine people. And I was glad the cabins had air conditioning that weekend. It was HOT!

donaldb,

It was an absolutely beautiful day here in TN yesterday (Sat). Hope ya'll enjoyed it. Fellow forum member Terry G. and I were out making tracks :bike: from middle TN up to the Big South Fork Rec. Area and back. I didn’t figure we’d cross paths with ya’ll, but I kept an eye out for other FJRs anyway. Here’s hoping ya’ll have a safe trip and continued outstanding weather.

The wife and I will be there next weekend, but we're staying Robbinsville. She's bugging me about the leaves changing! Are they still in swing and going by next Friday/Sat/Sun? Hope so for my sake! lol Not really, she just has her hopes up is all.

RTSR1/FJR,

Plenty of green still left on the trees where we were. Lots of hardwoods with the opportunity for a beautiful fall color show. Next weekend will likely be more colorful than this one. My origination point was close to Morrison; Terry’s was Nashville. We didn’t make the Smokies. We toured the area North of I40 between Hwy 111 and Hwy 27.

Sorry I can’t tell ya what it looks like further east and southward in the Smokies. Who knows, maybe I’ll be over there next weekend and we’ll cross paths.

Have a safe trip,

Welp, I just got back and have lots of piccies to post and will try to get it done w/in the next couple days. I rode straight into work and man is it piled up. The ride up on the 14th was great and the ride on the 15th Cherohala Skyway and the Dragon were both spectacular. Rain moved in on Monday, it was a cool breezy overcast day w/sprinkles and not ideal riding weather in the mountains but I did manage to do a little and I'm glad I did because it made for some really great pictures. Monday night the most God awful storm of the century moved in and winds were recorded in the mountains upward of 100 mph. We were scheduled to leave and head back Tuesday morning but could not. By 2 p.m. the worst had passed and we loaded up and rode as far as Birmingham. Finished the trip back today.

Cherohala Motorcycle Resort is where we stayed. The place is fairly new and they are adding on. The people there were very nice and due to the weather situation they offered to let us stay an extra night free of charge. They gave us the run of the place as there was no one else there other than our group on Sunday and Monday night. Saturday night a regional group from Adventure Riders.com was there, lots of old vintage BMW airheads. Nice group of folks.

Welp I'll leave some of the details for when I post the piccies (1200 miles) first long trip on the feejer......I think she enjoyed the trip more than I :yahoo:
