I have a chance to ride a 2002 Triumph Daytona for $5k Out the door (taxes and license included so, it's a fair bit under $5k). 6,000 miles. Cherry.

Kelly Blue Book says:

Trade in $4,200

Retail: $6,400

Looks like:

Not an R6, or R1, but cheaper.

Hmm...anyone ride one of these?

It has Digital Fuel Injection, as opposed to the 'ol Analog setup with tubes and ****. Thats good, other than that, I don't know a thing about the newer Brit stuff.

I don't think that is the bike you would be wanting to use as a track bike but at that price I sure would interested in it as a sport bike that I could ride for more than a hour at a time.

not a track bike due to it's weight?

Weight, brakes, everything. You could certainly take it to the track and have fun but a Daytona is not going to be competitive with the late model Japanese bikes that are designed more for the track than the real world.

If you are interested in hard numbers, Motorcyclist did a comparison of the 2002 Daytona to the GXSR1000 in 9/01. The Daytona had 127 rear wheel HP and its wet weight was 486 lb. It was capable of speeds that you should never do on public highways but was not competitive with the Suzuki.

Stay away. Until last year Triumph had some irritating EFI mapping problems. Despite alleged remaps, I don't think they got it squared away. I'd jump on the Triumph forums and pop your head outta the ethers to get the best answers.

OTH, that new 675 is giving me a major chubby!

okay. No 2002 Daytona. I called my buddy who works at the particular dealership (Roseville Yamaha) and he said he rode it today and didn't like it. He thought it was awkward, the front end felt lose and the geometry doesn't "inspire confidence".

Okay...OrangvaleFJR if I to say that about your FJR would you give it to me... B) ...would you would you pleeeaassee? ;)
