I think the heads of FEMA ought to get a raise. Make that with a new manila rope with a 13 turn noose. TJ

What's really ****** up is a squatter's law. A private business not having the right to toss that POS for non-payment? How screwed up is that? Oh yeah...Hillary's neck of the woods now.

I would like to see 3 national staging areas set up for disaster relief. East Coast, Central U.S., and West Coast. Massive warehousing of tentage like what our military is currently using (or modular living space). When a disaster like katrina occurs, the closest staging area mobilizes and sets up a camp w/ the necessary infrastructure. No giving out debit cards, hotel rooms, and the other things that were incredibly abused. Meals served on a rotating timeline and the able-bodied evacuees are "encouraged" to assist in the operation of their temporary home. If they do not want to do it, see ya...wouldn't want to be ya.

FEMA comandeered some of our State Parks (Alabama) for Katrina refugees. Installed brand new campers for them and took up almost every space available. They picked some of the nicest lakefront parks you could imagine. At Wind Creek State Park, they had to paint 3' orange numbers on the campers so that the local police could respond to all of the domestic violence calls, robberies and other crimes that were taking place there. The refugees trashed the park. Garbage everywhere, damge to park property, and stretching a small Police Department (Alexander City) to the breaking point. There was not even any appreciation shown.

In Anniston, FEMA spent several million dollars to renovate closed dormitories at the old Fort McClellan military base. When the refugees showed up, they said that they wanted hotels like the others got and refused to stay there. 19 people stayed at McClellan after it was set up to handle hundreds.

I'm all for helping people who really need it. I am disgusted at the way the help was abused by the very people that it was intended for.

+ 1

I live in Italy and we've been for years on the receiving end of a massive flow of refugees from the Balkans, North Africa and the Middle East.

In the early days there was little or no information on who these folks were. They just made it to our shores (some didn't and drowned a few hundred yards from the coast) and we put them up in old military barracks etc. and treated them humanely while their status was investigated.

There were at the time several riots in which they burned mattresses and furniture. The reason was the Muslim month of Ramadan. We served them meals during the day and this was seen as an insult to their religion.

I would have put the mofos back on their boats, given them 5 gallons of diesel and told them to f*** off to

Libya, where Ramadan is understood and duly observed.

I guess we're all sick of this sh*t.

Is this thread still open? Amazing! ;)
The powers that be must be having an emergency meeting or something. I saw a thread from Warchild about Scoot and MM2 answering PMS NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!! All hell must be breaking loose to let this political thread slip by.

Good thing they didn't put me in charge. I'd give 'em a loaf of bread, a blanket and a pup tent. Don't like it? Buh BYE!!!!! Ok, well maybe I wouldn't be THAT harsh, but still, what a waste of money and manpower.

This ain,t political....yet.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. With the exception of the loss of life/property from good folks. "relocating" the refugees (yes they are refugees) was the best thing that ever happened to Nagin's "Chocolate" city.

And, since the ******** get the airtime, it's obvious that none of the Katrina victims deserve either a shred of compassion or dignity.

Being in the FL National Guard, we were deployed to Vero Beach, FL to assist in hurricane relief. We put so much ice, water, MRE's into Lexus', Mercedes', BMW's, Caddy's, etc..when stores across the street were open and stocked full of the stuff. In today's economy, everyone seems to have their hands open for freebies..regardless of their financial situation.

People, in some of the local churches, opened their homes to REFUGEES and no few of them ended up robbed (or worse) by those they tried to help. These "squaters" were reported in the local DFW area too.

That he didn't mind being photographed for this piece shows how much he cares about himself or others.
