As the carved wooden signs shows, there will be a 16th annual UTAH 1088 in 2006!

For 2006, the 1088 has developed some unusual ways of challenging the endurance community. Forget anything you've been told about this event. It will all be new. And if you're a veteran of the 1088, well, you're really in for a treat on how this event will be run, cause it is going to be different from anything you've seen before at the 1088.

As the sign says, the UTAH 1088 will be held from June 23, 2006 to June 25, 2006. There will once again be a pre rally Bar B Q at our home, with the goodies being served on Thursday June 22, 2006.

Registration will officially open October 1, 2005, and will continue until the field of 75 riders is filled. A standby list will be created for those riders that enter after the starting field is filled.

In 2006, the 1088 will continue with the 24-hour format, but we are going to further delve back in the annals of time by having riders leave the starting line in one-minute intervals. You will have to be back at the starting line no later than the exact minute that you left 24 hours earlier. During your 24 hours in our state, you will have the opportunity to ride some of the best motorcycle roads in this country. If you have not had the opportunity to ride in Utah, you are truly in for a treat. We will continue to offer entrants multiple routes in which to seek their fame, fortune, and of course bonus points. Riders will be allowed to use Polaroid cameras, GPS units, or the old fashioned Rand McNally maps. Auxiliary fuel tanks are allowed, but are neither encouraged nor required.

The UTAH 1088 will continue to offer both single rider and couple categories, so that all riders might enjoy the opportunity to compete in this event. The entry fee for single riders will once again be $225.00, and the entry fee for couples will remain at $275.00. MERA members can deduct 10% from the posted entry fee. Your entry fee not only gets you into the best rally in the country, but also gets you a long sleeve rally shirt, a hat, water bottle, post rally awards banquet, a chance at numerous door prizes, and of course the before rally Bar B Q.

Finisher's awards will be given to all riders that finish within the allotted 24-hour time window, travel at least the main route minimum distance, and make the required number of checkpoints. Position plaques will be awarded to the top five (5) single rider finishers, and the top three (3) couples.

Rally packs will be sent out on or before February 1, 2006, and will contain a complete schedule of the rally, a brief overview of the rally itself, complete rules, and all hotel information.

The refund deadline is March 1, 2006, and all refunds will be charged $50.00.

The UTAH 1088 has always been, and will continue to be, an event for veteran endurance riders and novice's riders alike. It doesn't matter if this will be your first endurance event, or if you're a veteran of multiple events across the country. The 2006 UTAH 1088 will be one of the most challenging rides you have ever attempted, but it will also be one of the most enjoyable as well. And the camaraderie that you will experience at this event will be like nothing you've ever experienced before at a rally.

We have quite a history here at the 1088, and I hope you will join us for the 2006 edition of this storied rally for it is truly like no other event in the country. And when the 2006 rally season is finished, rally riders from across the country will be talking about the 16th annual UTAH 1088. . .hopefully, you will be part of those stories.

The application can be found at the bottom of the opening page:

I can personally attest that sometime just about 12 months ago.....my life changed as I filled out and sent off the Utah 1088 application. From September to June I evolved from a rider of motorcycles to a long distance rider that thinks of the Western U.S. as my backyard and my FJR my trusted horse.

Ladies and gentlemen: The Utah 1088 is the finest 1 day rally you can hope to participate. Veterans and newbies alike experience an incredible event put on by a host that knows every twist, turn and pebble on the road they're sending you out on.

The FJR is also a great machine for this event with the 2005 winner being an '05 piloted by George Zelenz. A gaggle of IBR veterans on Bimmers filled out the remainder of the top 10. I secured 12th place as a newbie on my '05 and a newbie '04 rider was just a few spots under that.

If you've ever thought about participating in a rally--this is the one.

Clicky here for chronicles of 2005.

My form is filled out and sending off the check tomorrow.

Oh, to be young and so full of energy. Ignacio, I was riding motorcycles before you born -- and it shows. You think the Western US is your backyard while I find three states a day is my limit, and those three states are usually Washington, Oregon, and back to Washington. Just remember that I can ride as many miles in 24 hours as most of of the LD riders, it just takes me 3-4 days to complete that 24 hours of riding -- but I feel good at the finish -- a little tired -- but good.

Bring back some Utah Gold, or whatever it was that George got to bring home this year.

So, how does that work with the applications available right now? Can we send them in early, or do we have to wait and postmark them Oct. 1st?

This would be a fun thing to obsess over for the next few months. Kinda like having a girlfriend, but much safer. Besides, with steak at home why go out for hamburger, right? :D

While I suspect you'd be just fine sending in you application now, it might be that the Rallybastard is testing one's reading comprehension skills, waiting to see who is going to blow off the written instructions and send in their app early... :D

Rallybastard? Devious.

Then one gets into that decision making process of whether they should try and mail September 29th....to time it so that it arrives October 1.

.....or postmark it October 1 because the Rallybastard is looking at that mark.

......or FedExing it down October 1 to beat the others that were postmarked in regular mail October 1.

...........or riding down there and hand delivering it at 12:01 a.m. October 1 to his house because you have no life. Although one would probably get the honor of being rally number 1 with this--I would think they would get the rock and have to hold on to it for 9 months.

I think it's time for another Prozac.......

I sent in an email inquiry and am awaiting the reply. I'll post it here if/when it arrives. Maybe you could take the 'honor' of hand-delivering 75 of our applications to the aforementioned residence at the proper time? It could be an all-FJR event!

Ahhh, but then comes the problem of assuming no one else is going to do this! You never know, you may be down there with a dozen other people explaining to the cops why exactly your tresspassing at midnight.... I don't think the excuse "I thought this was my house occifer. It was late, and I took the wrong turn" will work when you have out of state plates either.

Warchild, its great to see your still alive. I missed your input on the

FJR Owners Forum. The Web-site is not the same without you! I hope

to get to see you sometime in the future. I was at the EOM in Tenn last

month and we all had a great time there. :bleh:

You mean Joos's site? I still get over there once in a while, but admittedly, I don't post much over there anymore. The site has a few too many brain-dead asshats to enjoy very much.

Besides, between our forum here and the Blackbird forum, I'm kinda tapped out on time. I can't even check the R1 forums very much due to too many commitments. Been busting ass every night for several weeks now just working on the WFO-5 event web site. Went down to Reno last weekend to check out our new facility; it is AWESOME!

When we release the WFO web site this week, I'll post the link over there. But someone who isn't banned will have to post the event on EZBoard.

Cool, I'll post it up, snicker... Perhaps a suggestion might be PM'd my way?

I've traveled to Sturgis from CT and Tenn too this year. Look forward to hitting

Reno in 06 and seeing everyone. I can't thank Warchild enough for all the help

like Moko installs,Daytel DVM,etc.. My try a Baby-Butt ride in 06 too! ;)

So if I had been crazy enough to try signing up for this  when will I find out if my application has been accepted? :eh:

If you sent a check, see if it's been processed. I would think an e-mail confirmation in the next month or two.

I sent a check with the envelope postmarked 10/1 and see that it was processed 10/6, so I know I'm in.

Last year I received confirmation in the form of a rally number and pack in January.

Last year I sent in about 10/25 and was number 59 of 75. You should be safe....unless you sent in before 10/1 and Steve had already started the mind games. If he is and you did......well it sucks to be you. You've gotten the rock and haven't even been to the rally yet.

Since you were wise enough to send in your app this early, your chances are quite excellent, I would think.

I mailed my check 10/1 and just checked... It went thruogh on the 7th. Looks like I'm in! :yahoo:

Just got mine too. #52.

Called Ramada and made a reservation. Clerk seemed kind of confused and didn't know the $60 rate, but I didn't have much trouble pushing him into it.

One checkpoint, exactly 1088 miles this year, and you don't get the second leg bonii until you get to the checkpoint.

Different than last year. Cool!
