So I am travelling in Europe for a few weeks on business and keep stumbling across FJR's being used by the police. It's pretty cool. Had one zip by me on the interstate just flying! No Harley's for these guys. Have seen quite a few in Germany as well as the Netherlands, which really surprises me. I figured BMW would be the bike of choice in this area.

Oddly enough, I have seen very few beemers on the road. Lots of GW's however. Went to go rent a bike and all they had was the ST1300 and it was $$$$$ to rent and you only got 350km before you started paying .15euro per k/m. Too rich for my blood.

This one was located outside our hotel last night. Not crazy about the paint scheme b/c they didnt match the entire body. Just the front cowling, so it looked kinda goofy in person. I have seen a few that are all white and look incredibly cool.

I miss my '05 now. :(

I was just talking about painting my '04 in those exact colors. The attractive stripes came to me in a dream or something. Mmm-Hmm.

Seriously, I still like the old green/white no-nonsense Polizei Beemers.

That's one stout looking engine case guard.

 
sure would like to have know the oem for the front and rear crash bars or at least build specs. looks like you could parking lot drop with no damage-one of my main concerns with FJR was top heavy tippy bike (I know some have ridden thousands miles and never dropped it but a lot more have-never dropped mine but came close numerous times) at low speeds and the damage that always occured with tipovers. would be good could if somebody could examine the bars close and see what they are attached to on the bikes. We have a machine shop and can build most anything.

 
BTW, we drove 420 miles each way Saturday to see Normandy Beach. Absolutely incredible! It is amazing what they faced hitting that beach. Even 64 yrs later it can be daunting to look up at the cliffs and see the few bunkers remaining.

Well worth the 1k mile roundtrip that I still feel exhausted from today. We would have like to have stayed but had to get back for some business on Sunday. At least I know my way around there now and can visit for 2-3 days next time and really see everything. The French radar cameras are ruthless! They have over 3k of them and we passed quite a few but our car is registered in Germany which doesnt yet share registration info with France so 'if' we were speeding they cant trace it yet.

Bolt number 57 is obviously longer. The bottom is in place of the passanger foot peg, probably mounted with the standard cotter pin or a bolt and nut.

During a crash, your still likely to bend that bracket or tweak the rear subframe, same thing that happens when you slam into the exhaust pipe or a saddle bag. On a low speed lowside, you might get away with minimal to no damage other than bar ends and mirror.

For tipovers, it might completely save the bags with front sliders. Someone would need to see if the front sliders would need to be a little longer as the bar must go out farther than the saddle bag, slightly changing the angle the bike would lay if on it's side.

Paging Skyway or other's who do machine shop work. I'd buy these in a minute.

I know your not supposed to double post, but I think this is really important, and I want to make sure that this gets seen, as many people may not visit the other thread where this started.

While it would suck to lose the passenger footrest, these could be a huge seller.

They must not effect corerning clearence, or else I could not see these being mounted on police bikes.

There is a fabricator in Seattle that made similar items for the local police ST1300's....I'll see if I can find out who.
