OK a story I, as a new guy, Thingd I have noticed about the FJR peeps.

>> History

Last year, bout 15-16 months ago my wife said "Get a hobby" I was getting some farkles added to my truck that next day and it was next to a Harley dealership, I had a few minutes to kill so I strolled in. I had a couple of pretty scary crashes as a teenager (all my fault being young dumb and fullo cum) but never the less I decided I was not going to ride again for the rest of my life as I did not have enough sense to pilot that kind of power to weight ratio (That is why I sold my sand quads too 10 years ago)

Anyway, back to the story. I decided my hobby was gonna be getting a bike. I asked about getting an education. The Harley guys immediately directed me to the MSF folks. I went home and told my wife the plan.

1. Go to MSF

2. 2. Research Bikes

3. Rent a few types

4. By one if at that point I am still interested in owning one

So I took MSF, and got my Motorcycle endorsement, all the while doing the research on bikes. Taking wife to see bikes and letting her sit in the pillion position. Day after getting my Bike tag I called her from Honda and said I am getting a new GL1800 (Goldwing). She said, what about renting. I said no need to waste money. I am hooked on these dam things and want one now. My wife, knowing me, said OK.

I remember being scared to death a few days later when I picked it up. I want from 8 hours in a 250 MSF bike to this 900 lb bemoth, I had never ridden it. (MSF should be a REQUIRED course, they were 100% outstanding in every way!!)

To the tribe stuff. I think that each bike has a style or owners. This is of course a blanket statement and there will always be the 1% ers in each group. I started riding with a group of Harley owners. Nicest people in the world. Cruise easy and all the sightseeing stuff. In fact I am having a party at my house Saturday and most of them will be there.

Harley guys and gals are super, but I started wanting to ride faster than they did (I read EVERYTHING I can touch on riding and practice it to get better) and soon I found their preferred style a bit sedate for my need for, um, well I don’t have to explain that here….

Soon, I reached the edge of the performance abilities of my GL1800 (Great bike BTW folks, for a 900 lb sled) Scraping hard parts and all, even hanging off. Got wife a Vulcan 750 and all. The Harley guys were not quite my tribe. So, I joined the GWRRA (Gold Wing Road Riders Association) Again, great people, but their idea of riding is to meet aj Denney’s for coffee the ride 35 miles to an event. That is the ride for the day. Not my style either. Not my tribe, but great folks

I have had my eye on a FJR, based on my research, since last year. Not knowing the tribe style but captured by the bike itself. It is not perfect, but I cannot see anything wring with it, no wait, tie downs on the front……. Oh well, anyway..

About 6-8 weeks ago wife and I are on my GL1800 and just kicking around. I had a FJR lined up in Vegas but that was a week away. Ladies and gents, I have a character flaw, it is I have NO!! patience once I make a decision and I had decided to buy one. So off I went. Drive through two states and 450 miles that Saturday and found one on the showroom floor (only 30 miles from my house, should have reversed my route, lol)

I found this forum, watched the folks here, got into the culture, started adding farkles.

I think I have found the right bike and the right group of peeps. I ride in full gear all the time. That is my style. I ride safe, I also like to ride at 7/10ths (of my ability) I like LONG rides. I am addicted to this sport. I felt welcomed here. I have had people here send me PM’s just to start conversations with me and makes friends.

I think I have found my tribe, Cost me 50K in bikes, farkles, trailers and stuff, But I am happy.

Thanks

Well, guess it's a good thing I don't have any money, didn't have the funds to try this and that when shopping for a new ride, just went straight to the Yami joint, and rode away. Q, how do you afford 50 large on toys and 4 X's?

50 Large lol, my bank loves me, They actually own the stuff, not me. I just git to ride it. Strange thing, the crap for riding costs as much as the bikes.

I had no idea this was a Borg group........... Red Alert Red Alert....... Shields up!! :assassin:

Now, the Chocolate lab, that is expensive. He eats rugs!! **grinning**

Reminds me of the lyrics from a song...."take the long way home".....now your here....enjoy.... :D ....

Great post. I think you are right...you fit right in with a LOT of the riders here. There are a few low mileage types around too incase we go through your tires too fast.

I like the style of the tribe. Here and the attitude. To me it shows like this

"Ride Hard, Ride Fast, even really fast and really hard, but dont be stupid about it"

That is my style and it seems the style of more than a few here.

Thanks again

Man, that makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside...

ok... not really, but still welcome Cdogman, sounds like you'll fit right in.

Cdog, there are many mileage hounds who frequent this board. Me personally, I'm not even near to what some of the riders around here, and closely associated with are capable of (like 250K miles in 3 years capable :dribble: ), but its a lot of fun trying. At least we both have the right tools at our disposal for the task at hand. :D

WELCOME !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

4 Ex's isn't really that bad. I know a guy who married and divorced the same woman 6 times. Got married a 7th time and divorced her too. So, don't feel bad.

Just keep the rubber side down and you'll have lot's of fun on your FJR.

love the tribe too, but how do you feel about Guinness?
That and Islay Scotch. Nice combo

Laphroaig Cask Strength is my preference
