Lot of work under less than ideal conditions; bet they had a hell of a celebration party after. That's the first DC3 I've seen with upgraded powerplants, wonder what they used. Thanks for sharing that.

That was some undertaking! I thought it was inspirational to see those involved, living in tents on Antartica for 6 weeks, with one common goal....and achieving it! $5,000 a day, for 45 days = $225,000, and I'm sure that wasn't all of the bill.

Thanks for sharing!

There's a company called Basler I think that does turboprop conversions, skis, etc. Out of Wisconsin maybe? Saw them years ago at Airventure.

I'm guessing the reason it happened in the first place is the fuzzy dice hanging at the pilot station was showing snake eyes at the time. Seriously, the dedication and compassion for that old airplane oozes from the pores of the recovery crew in every interview. They talk about her as an animate object that they're help bring back to health. Pretty cool! Kudos!

Damn Canadians can't throw away anything.

I have no idea what the value of the crashed plane was but was it really cheaper to fix this plane over replacing it with a used one??

As a historical note, the plane they cobbled together for the flying scenes in "Flight of the Phoenix" broke up while filming the landing scene, killing the pilot, Paul Mantz, a long-time veteran of movie stunt flying. That's why there is no scene at the end of the plane landing.
