Here's the deal. Old Michael, as some of us old timers may recall, was once an institution around here. Sure he was no Two Wheel Nut, thank goodness, but nonetheless, a stalwart poster of some of the finest Ride Reports the Forum has ever seen. Don't believe me, do a search. At any rate, his Ride Reports never made me want to pee. (sorry, a little inside humor) (i love you GR). But I digress.
Mark your calenders for the soon to be known as EPIC April 12th OM Memory Ride. If he would die we could call it a Memorial Ride. Those are always catchier.
Anyway, the ride may go something like this. By the way did I mention it's an RTE? So think up someplace to eat.
Okay okay. Here's a very tentative plan based on careful weather calculations, his love of wildflowers and vernal pools etc.
We meet in the Fairfield area for coffee and or breakfast. Coffee can be the Starbucks behind Costco or if everyone wants breakfast, Valley Cafe in Green Valley is very nice. Obviously, as anyone can see, this is very well planned out.
Okay okay. From there, a delightful and spirited ride up Wooden Valley,(one of the hidden gems of Napa County) past Moskowite corner, past Turtle Rock, down 128 to some lake that supplies water to Napa. From there, a more methodical ride up Chiles Pope Valley Road to, what else, Pope Valley. Those that attended Tyler's Calistoga weekend can revel in the chance to retrace familiar roads. From here we explore the many Flora and Fauna that inhabit Pope Valley this time of year. See wildflowers and vernal pools above, but add wild turkeys. Holy crap Beemerdons, he said Wild Turkey.
Onward we go via Butts (not a typo) Canyon road on up to Lake County. From here we can either turn right and go to that little diner in Lower Lake that everyone but me knows about(remember RTE) or we can tour the Cobb Mountain Recreation Area via some road that's lottsa fun but whose name I can't remember right now.(can you say PWI) Either way, somehow, someone will come up with the perfect lunch place.
After lunch we wind our way up to Hiway 20 where we proceed to participate in a very long held FJR tradition. For the newbies the tradition consists of passing flocks of Harleys in wonderfully wide sweepers at triple digit speeds while hoping the CHP pull over the Harleys for impeding traffic. I know I don't have to tell most of you how much fun that part of this ride will be. Whoo hoo.
Many of us(the fun loving ones) will then turn right on Hiway 16 and proceed at a breakneck speed down or along Cache Creek into the Capay Valley. Stopping at the Cache Creek Casino Resort for last gas and close call stories we break up and go home to reminisce about what an honor it was to ride in memory of our beloved OM. Who knows, he may even show up. That is, if he still rides.
I have it on good authority that this may be co sponsored by Doug the Bugnator, which of course means the fun quotient is doubled. Tripled if Gail comes along.
So come on, who's with me on this? I'll even make an exception to my normal rule and allow SoCal folk to join in. I know. I know. Very gracious of me.
