I was in the mood for poppies… so I dusted off the little SV and went in search of them. Saturday I headed for the Santa Cruz mountains for a goat galore kind of day. Guess I wasn’t the only one who had that idea.
Our goaty group for the day
My good friend, Marles, who also is an MSF instructor and ended up being my daughter’s rider coach when she took the course!
We backtracked down 84 and took Kings Mountain Rd. up to Skyline
Spirits were high
Tunitas Creek
Lobitos Creek
Stage Rd.
Cloverdale Rd. – no poppies but lots of yellow!
Gazos Creek was lined with yellow… it smelled so sweet right here!
Marles on Hwy 1
Swanton Rd.
We high-tailed it to Davenport for lunch
Seems there were lots of like minded folks out enjoying the day
Sated, we hit Bonnie Doon Rd. and then Smith Grade – been awhile since I’ve been on that one and I had forgotten how pretty it is.
We then hit a little gem called China Grade which defines the word “goat” in its truest sense. I only have one picture of it because I was too busy after that dodging potholes the size of the Grand Canyon.
236 to 9 and a stop at Four Corners where Logan and Robert made a new friend… it wasn’t me, I swear! Turns out it was a case of mistaken identity.
While it was a great day, I still hadn’t found the elusive poppies. I guess I would have to go out the next day to continue the search… oh darn.
Sunday started with coffee (of course!) and I found a really safe parking spot.
We scooted down 101 to meet some more folks in Tres Pinos before heading to Coalinga. Good turnout for the day!
The clouds cleared and the day began to warm up as we headed out one of my favorites – Hwy 25
The fast boys getting ready to head out from Pinnacles
We were gifted with stunning views
The solitude of a lone oak
Barren tree branches against a crystal clear blue sky
The butterflies are migrating down here… sadly, some of them didn’t make it
The estrogen crowd
Some of da boyz
Mark seemed a little confused but we got him turned around
Time to hit the sweepers on 198
And hop the sidewalk for a picnic in Coalinga
Party of 17, your parking is ready
And hey look!! George/coyote showed up on this funny looking bike!! (just for you JB)
Mmmmm… lunch time!!
Mike brought his son, Eric, for the day… he said we were too boring to be around for a bunch of old farts
