The Viet-nam moving wall is here

KINGMAN - It's here. The North Mohave County Patriots and the Vietnam Veterans of America, Mohave County Chapter No. 975 plan to unveil the Moving Wall today.

An opening ceremony for the half-sized replica of Washington D.C.'s Vietnam Veterans Memorial starts at 1 p.m. at Firefighters Park, 2001 Detroit Ave.

From that point on, the Moving Wall will be on display 24 hours a day through Sunday.

At 10 a.m. Saturday, organizers will read the names of all the Arizona military personnel who died during the 20-year conflict.

The Patriot Guard will stand watch over the memorial from the moment it's unveiled to when it's taken down.

In 5 years, I'm gonna ride to see the real one.

I went to see the moving wall when it stopped in Wheaton a few years back. I got a pencil rubbing of the name of the Wheaton medic who died at a very young age...who later was awarded the Medal of Honor. A middle school in town is named for him.

Once or twice a year one of the moving walls comes through the Nawlins' area

It's quite a privilege to lead the escort for the Patriot Guard and lotsa other riders

very emotional and amazing as the State Troopers do a "moving shut down" of the interstate as we proceed down the highway

Seeing it, the statue to the Nurses, and the statue of the men coming out of the woods (looking toward the wall) was one of the must-see destinations of my first (and subsequent trips to d.c.).

I've not been back since they finished the Korean War monument but it's another must-see.

I was there back in '88..was very moving.

Since many, for whatever reason, do not make it to DC...this moving Wall is a great thing. Brings that realization of the cost...of the people who died in that war...each individual...to each community that the moving Wall visits.

If you haven't been to the national memorial, I highly recommend visiting the moving Wall, if it is within a day's drive of your place.

I agree, the moving wall is a great idea. Especially for those living west of the Mississippi. The first time I saw it was in Leavenworth, Wa. My dad was still alive and I took a day off work and he and I went together. It was great for both of us.

I was honored to be part of the escort when the moving wall came to Redmond Or. I went back after it was set up to to remember some friends that were lost for reasons unknown. It's a very strange feeling looking at the wall knowing you could have been on it yourself.

excellent point. i remember bitching about getting orders for Korea. when i arrived i had guys in my unit that either were coming from VN or had orders for VN that got changed at the last minute. made me realize it could have been worse.

+1 on the must-see. It's a deeply moving memorial, a tremendous work of art. I'll be returning to it next month.
