They Need to Hear it From Ya Today

Folks - things in south Louisiana are pretty somber right now. My home is 50 miles West of Baton Rouge, but we are still close enough to feel the pain. I am not a cop, but work in Public Safety at a University and our fine officers are my closest co-workers. Perhaps this is why yesterday's tragedy hit me more so than even what happened in Dallas recently. It feels much more personal.

Please take a moment in your busy day today to thank a police officer for protecting you. There is much conversation left to be spoken. There will be time for that and so much more. Everyone deserve to and will be heard.

But just today, please thank these people for their selfless service. Trust me - they need to hear it from you.

A.J. (and the other peace officers on this forum) - Your birthday comes bittersweet this year, my friend. I'm sorry for that. Know that you have my utmost respect as a person, and much more so, for the badge you wear every day. I thank you for your selflessness in protecting my family, friends, and neighbors. I thank you for answering our most desperate calls for help, day and night. And your willingness to pay the ultimate price to do so, even for people that you don't agree with. Please stay safe today and everyday, and continue to do your life's calling with passion and pride. Most importantly, know that the community you serve stands behind you. We don't say it enough, but we appreciate what you do.

All too often "The PoPo" is the guy we are trying to avoid when we are riding a bit over the speed limit. I can even recall in the days of my misspent youth driving home in the night after a few too many hoping to dodge "The Man". Due to my own mistakes I allowed myself to paint the Police as The Enemy.

With age and maturity, much of that has changed. I am proud of having friends like A.J. and his brother Alex. I know that it has to be frustrating to have to fight by the rules when the Other Side knows the rules and can use that against them. The Other Side has no rules. Our Thin Blue Line is always at a disadvantage from the start.

So yes, I say "Thank You" to all the law enforcement officers on this forum. Stay strong and stay safe.

It's a shame that a small, unscrupulous group have convinced a great army of Useful Idiots to advance their evil agenda. Of course black lives matter, ALL LIFE is precious, God valued us enough to send his only begotten son to die for us, and drink the cup of his wrath in our place - we're that special to him.

For our FJRForum members who happen to be of that special breed - LEOs, be careful out there! We care about you, and want to see you come home every night to your families, safe and sound!

I could only add that I hope folks could realize the vast amount of good, hard working, well meaning leo's out there on the job at all hours of the day everyday, and that they should have our heart felt respect for what they do. Useful idiots, that term is a mouthful right there, but seems so true.

In Keizer, Oregon, exiting hotel lobby to pack KrZy8, noticed Keizer LEO talking to hotel front desk clerk.

Animated conversation; I don't want to get too close and freak Mr. LEO out.

And he IS watching me. I catch his eye, give him a thumbs up to reassure and continue to pack.

When the hotel employee left, I walked over, with my hand out.

"I noticed you were very watchful of my presence" I said.

"Yes." Short and sweet response.

"Officer, you take care. I know times are very tough for police right now. You stay aware, stay diligent, be safe."

"And Thank You, Thank You".

To my complete surprise, the officer's eyes welled with tears. A big guy, 6 foot 3 plus, and he's tearing up over my appreciation for him.

Then I teared up too.

It's like we both knew what was really at stake.

"Good night officer".

"Good night to you too. Be safe on that motorbike."

And I returned to the safety of the hotel and my bed; the officer back to patrol a night shift.
