Ole Jinba is a year old and has 13,500 miles of wear and tear without any funny sounds coming from the left side of the motor.

You guys think that I'm out of the woods without ticks? Still at risk?

LMK

Thanks

Well, in a word, no. :D But you're pretty damn close. If it's silent, probably. Frank has 9400 now, and I occasionally, at idle only, get a light tinkling from the left side, silent at speed, gone once warm. Ticking? Maybe. Time will tell. Paranoia is probably my worst enemy. ;)

My '03 has ~18,000 miles and is quiet as a mouse and runs like a deer.

I still have YES.

IMO, you're not out of the woods quite yet, but it's encouraging if you've really come this far tick-free.

About the same here I'm afraid. When I hear it there's no mistaking what it is. It's not the standard Yamaha genesis noise, this is different. And it comes and goes.

One thing I'm hoping it could be is an exhaust leak. The shop was dorking with my Holeshots a few weeks back since they mounted them incorrectly to begin with and I don't think they got them sealed back from properly. I can hope can't I?

Had our local club ride today, 4 of the bikes were FJR's.

'03 with 26K and fresh valve adjustment was 'quiet as a tomb', maybe quieter. Owner claimed his sounded like mine before the adjustment.

'05 with 6K miles sounded the same as above.

'05 with 21K miles was making fairly loud valve train noises from the left side.

'05 with 14K miles (mine) was about 2/3 rds as loud as the bike above.

Mine has 'knocked' a couple of times on start-up but the noise abates when the high idle kicks down. A couple of weeks ago, mine was making a racket that was very loud and quite disturbing. Especially when running from 2,500 to 3,500 rpm.

Has been running fairly quiet since that episode so, who knows?

Makes me glad I bought the YES plan, I tells ya!

Looks like it may take some more time for my bike to declare itself.

Anyone know what pagan God to which I should make the virgin sacrifice to keep the ticks away?

;)

Good to read that it is still sounding good!

How ya' doing after the move, protondecay?

Ron

Ron you've got mail.

The highlight was riding Jinba through 500 miles of rain. It was a pitch black night and I was totally surrounded by 18 wheelers on I-70 throwing twenty feet of spray in every direction.

Those Pilot Roads showed their worth in that mess. <_<
