Complete waste of time I know.....
Was just thinking about EOM 07 and as I'm sure everyone does each time I think about it I remember some new little tidbit of something that makes me smile and be thankful that we have people will to step up and organize these things.
Yeah the road were awesome. Yeah no radars in VA sucks, but the things I remember were the funny little things....
1. I've been riding for a long time and been to many rider meets....The Brier was awesome in their response to us. I was pleasantly surprise to ride in on Thursday with part of the Ohio crew to find a tent, hose, buckets and soap all stationed in the parking lot ready for us all provided by the Brier. Huge +1 in my book.
2. The suspension clinic which Jeff did which actually almost happened in the lobby due to the rain. Was hilarious to see Fencer on the back of each bike slamming it up and down while Jeff evaluated the travel or whatnot. If you've ever seen how big Fencer is you'll probably understand why this looked humerous (not gunna fall for that banana in my tailpipe).
3. I had just put fresh AVON's (first time ever using them) on as part of the group by on Thursday night and Friday during our torrential rain strom as we were heading over 311 on one of the switchbacks I ended up sliding the rear end around through almost the entire switchback all graceful like. I assure you this was a completely unintentional. However a bit later at lunch someone asked me, "did you slide that entire corner" to which I said, "yeah". His response was a simple, "yeah" back at me. Just seemed like one of those I ride an FJR and understand moments to which I'm sure you'll understand.
4. I missed dinner on Saturday night as I was late getting back for the day while zooming back in a futule attempt to make in on time I literally had a squirrel explode on one of my fork legs at about 90mph while heading out of a big high speed righty. When i say, explode, I mean just a mass of crap down the ride side of my bike starting at the fork leg. Not a discernable piece of it left. A pretty decent tank slapper and a couple seconds of, "oh my frack" later and I was fine. But, I did spend the next hour at the Brier during the dinner time cleaning the crap off my bike (thanks for providing the stuff from #1 above Brier!).
5. With Renegade in the lead, we headed out Friday morning and as we were passing through a small town just before the twisty section of our route started one of our members stops traffic, then makes an illegal turn in front of a cop to head out in search of some Yuenglings beer for the festivities later that night. Now that is dedication.
6. We stopped for lunch Friday at some (of course) hole in the wall place which ended up being perfect. Our group occupied maybe 1/4 of the entire place. Of course, we all come in, dripping wet and sling our gear over chairs or whatnot.....not a single person complained. What a great spot.
7. Saturday I ended up heading up to the New River Gorge solo and just hung out for a bit taking pics. Jeff, EAllen and crew had arrived and I was toying with the idea of heading out with them but decided to stay a bit longer. I probably left 20-30 mins after they did and didn't realize until later when it was posted that someone had gone down on the bridge at the bottom of the gorge. The same bridge I had gone over after them. What was a tad odd, was I stopped on the center of the bridge for the required old bridge, new bridge piccy when a fairly large group on cruisers pulled up on the bridge and all stopped. The guy that stopped just behind where I was standing dropped his bike. Claiming how slippery it was and whatnot....broken mirror for his trip was all that happened.
8. I recall in a drunken state trying to find that fracking little roller ball off of my Blackberry Curve after launching it off the second floor balcony at the Brier on *ahem* accident. Must have taken me 20 minutes to find that darn thing. Worked fine after putting back together. gogo RIM!
9. No idea who it was but on my way to find the room with the name tags and such I asked a guy walking by if he new where it was...he handed me a beer and just stated, "priorities man" and kept walking. How awesome is that?
10. I recall thinking how awesome it was that Heidi got her ticker back in time for EOM.
11. All the table racing, side stories and conversation...the parking lot quarter finals *cough* Jeff *cough* and general good hooliganism was a blast.
12. I believe it was Scab and I (someone else also, can't recall) were talking about the motorcycle wave and he stated how he points at their front tire and said, "that's all they get". Not sure what about the moment exactly was funny now but it was just one of those moments again that stand out in your brain as hilarious. Maybe the deadpan delivery...dunno...funny shyat though.
Anyhow....totally long and a waste of time but I could go on and on just like everyone else about little things like that which stuck out in my mind as awesome memories.
If you are on the fence on whether or not to attend this years EOM I could only encourage you to do everything you can to make it. You'll have a blast, it'll be fun and no matter what there is a group that will ride whatever pace you want. If you think you are slow and don't want to come because you think you can't keep up with ExtremeMarine, Jeff or EAllen....who cares? No matter what, you'll have an excellent time and will be able to ride with many people at varying levels who love this bike of ours.
Ok, now I'm off to look for a job so I'll have money to come this year again. LOL!
