Currently with Verizon and thinking of going with Xfinity (ComCast). I am just looking for an internet provider only and verizon wants to sell me all the ******** I don't want.

if you mean Xfinity they will try and sell you all the ******** too, but you don't have to buy it all. Speeds and up-time are decent where I'm at (Chicago) though...

If you have cable at your residence Xfinity/Comcast is probably available. You can check here: https://www.xfinity.com/internet-service.html

Comcast, llke all the other providers, would like to sell you a whole package so make your wishes clear at the beginning..Buy a CableModem instead of renting one from them. figure out how much cable you will need between the outlet and the modem and source online. The Motorola Surfboard DOCSIS 3 model is accepted by Comcast ( ARRIS SURFboard SB6121 DOCSIS 3.0 Cable Modem and is widely available for around $70.00. Office Depot, Amazon, Best Buy - all the usual suspects. If you have cable in your residence with an available cable outlet you can do the installation yourself and just call Comcast to have the service activated. No need to have a Comcast Tech come out and do the installation. They will need the Modem model name (SB6121) and the Modem MAC address (HFC MAC ID). There is another model the SB6141 but the 6121 works just fine. Download speeds for cable providers max out right around 50Mbps, uploads around 6Mbps consistently.

Not advertised, at least in my area, is a Basic Cable service for about $12/month. Carries all the local network channels, a bunch of shopping channels, local govt, Discover, Create. and a bunch of continuous musci channels. They keep changing the choices so that may not be available for new subscribers. I've had mine since about 2004 when I got fed up with AT&T DSL and went back to cable. Had Time Warner Road Runner in the Los Angeles area and it was about the same as Comcast.

They're all ******* thieves. Get the cheapest, unless you live in the fringe areas and have to worry about outages.

Since my town is subsidized by Comcast for a local TV channel Verizon cannot give you the TV portion and will tell you it is not available in your area. Such ********. So much for capitalism. Enough of that. I get the local TV channels through a digital antenna in the attic. That's enough for me for now because I hardly ever have time to watch the crap they put on the cable now anyway. Better off without it IMO. So my wife was looking at all the cost we have with the phone (taxes and surcharges) and she has finally had enough. It cost more than the phone usage itself. We pay for private service but still get harrassed with phone calls. Another 5 bucks thrown out the window. The reason I ended up with verizon was the free instilation. Comcast gave me a quote of over 2K for install originally. I will suffice to say that when verizon showed up for the install they ran out of cable and had to call another truck. It took 2 1/2 days to complete the install. They were not expecting the extent of what needed to be done. They did do it for free so I felt somewhat compelled to at least stay with them for a while. That was then and this is now. I do not know if comcast can us the same fiber optic line or not. I sure hope so. If I do switch buying the modem will be part of the deal. Thanks for that info.

Be glad you have choices. I thought I was bad off with Suddenlink being our only provider, but now I've moved and am stuck with AT&T's crap.

I feel your pain. The best I can do is AT&T DSL. Streaming TV is out of the question. I can watch videos on Youtube if I don't use HD.

I steal my get my service directly from Level 3 Communications. Download speeds around 2.5 terabits per second...uploads, who cares?

Can pirate download full Blu Ray in about 45 seconds.

Go for whomever can get you the most for the least. It's all about the bandwidth as the cable companies are total greedheads who have literally about killed the goose by abusing customers selling them garbage they don't want or need.

We're in the same boat here, not a lot of options. Going to drop home phone service, go Dish with the Hopper for TV and buy internet separately from someone. Wife looking at options now

As much as I hate it, we switched to Comcast maybe a year ago. We had satellite through Dish Network, our home phone and internet through Century Link, and our home security through another company. We were paying around $300/month for all that. Then one day an Xfinity lady comes by and says they can do all three for $100/month.

Now we have Xfinity Cable, super fast Xfinity Internet and Xfinity Security system for right at $110 with a couple add ons. Verizon has our home phone. We have two HD TVs with huge DVRs and one standard cable TV that hardly ever gets watched. Our security rocks, and our Internet does too. The price is great, and we're locked in until the end of the contract. We'll see what happens when that comes up. Hell, we're saving $200/month.

We had a couple small problems and one big one. The first Xfinity box didn't work right, and was replaced quickly. Good on them.

THEN one Saturday, I get home and there's a service tag on our door that they'll be back on Monday. I get inside and nothing works. No TV, no Internet, WiFi, Netflix, nothing. The TV is frozen on a setup screen. My wife tells me some service guy came by unannounced that morning and asked to come in and check on something, which REALLY pissed me off. Then he went outside, told my wife he needed a part and would come back in an hour. He said the system was updating and would be good to go in 20 minutes. My wife had to leave, and I wasn't home yet, so he returned and not being able to get in, put the tag on the door and shut off our connection.

Apparently some leak in our line was affecting the entire neighborhood. I was super pissed and yelled at every ******* unlucky enough to get on the phone. One tried to have the guy come back and he refused. That ************ is lucky he didn't come back Monday morning.

Monday, the doorbell rang at 0645. An older guy came in and had to replace the line the original installer set up because it was faulty and leaking data backwards. It took him 10 minutes. We told him what happened Saturday and he said they guy was an ***** and should have had this fixed as fast as he did. Comcast only ever discounted the two days we were without service, and even that took me being pissed.

Honestly, they've been good since, but another guy ever tries to come back into my house, especially when I'm not here, is going to find himself needing a hospital.
