That bucket trap has been effective for some.

The description of the trap and only head left seems to indicate you might have mice and rats or another predator got in. Do you have a cat?

I hate meeces to pieces! Does anyone have a picture of the no longer available Tinypic image or suggestions for covering the hole with metal screen that cannot be removed easily? I'd thought elastic bands to hold the screen on, but elastic bands are no match for little teeth. Maybe engineering wire? I don't know. We're using what we've coined "The Slip & Die". It's actually called the RinneTraps - Flip N Slide Bucket Lid Mouse Trap during winter cold storage in our shed. When it's below freezing, a switch to anti-freeze from water for obvious reasons. In the shed, for the most part, it does what it's supposed to, but come spring, little unwanted gifts are found in the bike's air box. Additionally, I have critters living on the backside of the beauty cover of my car's mostly sealed engine. Nest material gets removed, a week later, removed again, rinse and repeat the entire year. We've put Grandpa Gus's packs and mint spray everywhere it can safely go everywhere. I'm pretty sure that it helps a bit. the downside, it's stupid expensive and is less than completely effective in open air. Side note, no garage foreseen in the future. Any suggestions would be extremely helpful. Thanks!

Agree about the way to clear mice, but please remove the collar from it. A cat can get strangled if it catches on a branch in a tree, and a neighbour had a cat that got its paw stuck in its collar, it had to be put down because of the injury that caused.

Good to hear. (I still don't like cats with collars, I think it spoils their looks, also not as pleasurable stroking them. But that's me )

This cat is the only one that she has collar.She is my gf's lovely cat...She put it on there...Also i don't like cats with collars,so the other seven are collar free cats..

We live in a rural area and have no problem with mice. It sometimes amazes me, but we rarely see any evidence and none have taken up residence in our cars, motorcycles, or RVs. We do, however, have bunch of snakes. They're encouraged as long as they stay outside. And yes, I know they're not active this time of year, but we see so many during the summer we think they keep the small rodent population in check year round.

Well, I am up to 7 hostile combatants. Two again last night. Using plastic traps that squeeze to set. No finicky setting like the old style wood and wire ones, but mechanics of how they work are pretty much the same. I have two traps designed for multiple resets. One of which I have used with success in years past, but for some reason they have been empty.

I have noticed these mice are the brown and white ones, not the gray we used to get so maybe different kinds of mice have different patterns that do not favor the reset kind of trap? Either way I am incrementally reducing their numbers. Typically in the past we would have some mice and after trapping a few that would be the end of it. I have not tried the more elaborate of not more entertaining bucket styles because of that. Maybe will have to revisit that one.

No cats, not a fan. I am perfectly happy if someone else's cat made regular visits, but do not want to deal with a live animal I have to take care of. My BIL has a farm that over the years usually has had feral cats hiding away somewhere. He occasionally feeds them and throws out fish guts for them. They keep the mice away.

Year ago a weasel somehow got into our house. Weasels really like to eat mice. Problem is weasels do the same thing as mice, but leave an even larger package, if you will, so that is not a long term fix. We caught it shortly thereafter and brought it down the road to release it. Cannot harm animals that have been named by young daughters. We had no problems with mice for a long time after that.

I have not. Always assumed they were just another useless gimmick like deer magnets...eerr I mean whistles on cars. But now that I am thinking about it, my daughter or maybe the renter I had in my house for a few years left one behind. I removed it to use the outlet it was in, but did not throw it out. Maybe I should track it down and leave it there to minimize future infestations.
