Get that &$#^%^#% air filter out of the damm thingy. I can see it. I took the whole side apart but stopped when it came to unplugging the connectors.

Am I missing something here?? How friggin hard do they have to make it? The shop manual SUX

Ah, see you have an 06. A Gen I it just pops right out, no "thingys" involved. They have an electronic air filter too?

I find the '05 to be a pain to remove the air filter. I can't imagine them making it even more difficult on the '06. You have my sympathy.

Cdog,

I hate to say this - but you have an AE.

I have heard a 'rumor' that it's necessary to remove the electric shift components in order to reach the air filter.

Any other AE owners out there care to comment?

That is a truism, I have one and it is not a simple task.

Didn't Chevrolet do something like this with the 1966 Corvette 427 engine? I think you had to loosen the engine mounts and slightly lift the engine to change one of the spark plugs?

*** END Hijack mode***

Yeah, I know. I'm aging myself.

Corvette hell, I have a full sized for Van that's like that.

New man-law, if it's a service or consumable part, the damn thing should be change-able within 5 minutes and no special tools required. WTF?

On a Harley V-Rod you need to pull the motor to adjust valves, its all about supporting the dealer with things that are profitable... billable shop hours.

I had a sweet 69 Fairlane Cobra, 428 SCJ. You had to pop the motor mounts and raise the engine slightly to get decent access to the plugs. Did a tune on a pals new Boss 429, had to remove the master cylinder to do #7 (or 8, last plug on drivers side, don't remember for sure now). Wouldn't be so bad, but we were putting in plugs every 800-1000 miles. Ah, those were the days. :p

The owners manual is your friend. I just changed mine last weekend.

AE specific air filter replacement procedure (per service manual page 3-22) is as follows:

(very simple if I do say so myself ;) )

1) Remove Riders seat

2) Remove Left Side cover per 4-1

3) Remove shift actuator per 5-67

4) Remove air filter cover

5) Remove air filter element.

now -- how much easier can that be?

for reference, step 3 looks like this:

just a few fasteners.

Fuke me!

I guess they figure those that are too girly-man to operate a clutch are closet ace wrenches.

LMAO

I will try it. I goess I STILL thing the damm thing ought to be easy to do. BUT in retrospect, On my GL1800 I had to remove the entire cop tupperware and MORE, computers and all that stuff. to change it. But the Manual did not suck
