Well, as I mentioned in my intro/first post, I have been lusting after a FJR1300, but I am not sure if I am gonna buy a motorcycle or not yet, but I do have the fever and it will be fed by a FJR1300.

The big thing I have read on this site that when you make your purchase and await the delivery day sleep is a distant memory. Well, the crazy part for me is I haven't even made the initial decision to buy yet or even passed it through the S/O for rubber stamp, yet I am losing sleep like crazy! I spend hours on this and related FJR forums pouring over details and posts regarding my new obsession, daydreaming about Farkles (never even heard of a farkle before) I could put on the bike I don't have or even know if I could afford. So, if it finally does come time to buy, well I don’t know if I could take the PRESSURE of waiting for the delivery day.

BTW, this all started with me bump starting a new rider’s bike after he stalled it and his battery wouldn’t crank the engine. His 2nd season riding his R6 and he wasn’t about to attempt this crazy bump starting thing! So I obliged him before he ordered a tow truck. All it took was the snarl of that R6 when the engine caught and the 50 meter ride back to the owner to draw me back into the world of Motorcycling!

Sorry for the rambling pointless post, but my doctor told me it would be good therapy!

Glenn.

Well, you might be able to save yourself all that stress by going and picking the bike up. Might even be better therapy if you need to travel a ways to get it :yahoo:

Welcome, Glenn. I wish I could tell you it's going to get better, but that would be a lie!

The only cure is to find the FJR you are lusting after, buy it (stealing it is frowned on), and begin the farkling!

Good to have you onboard.

Don

PS: If your doctor thinks talking about it is good therapy, he obviously isn't a rider himself! Get either a bike or a new doctor!!

Yeah, the bike is just the beginning. You'll need GPS, luggage, upgraded windshield, better seat, tank bag (I guess "luggage" covered that,) intercom, music, bike-to-bike radio, and pretty soon you'll be listening to folks talking about their suspension upgrades, this tire instead of what it came with. Oh, yeah, all new gear for the both of you, jackets, pants, boots, helmets, gloves, rain suits. Then camping gear compact enough to take for a weekend. You'll also need PC software for mapping, something better than the crap that comes with your GPS. What, you don't have a laptop to run it on? Well, get one of those, too!

Ah Geez!!!! More pressure. BTW recommendations on "intercom, music, bike-to-bike radio"? I want listen to the ipod, talk to the passenger and to the riding buddies... (Geez, I don't even have a bike yet!)

I am waiting for the sale of my Old Trail Toyota to go thru before I can make any kind of movement. If that all works out and I get the "fine, I don't care what you do!!" + *DOOR SLAM* from the wife I am heading to a dealership! I think a trip with the wife to look at those pretty pink leather jackets will help her decision making. Gonna buy new '09 as I can't find any good canadian used bikes. Nice ones in USA, but 2600 kms is a lil to much of a drive to get one!

GLenn.

Glenn, SOME of us bought ours during the PDP....we placed our $500.00 down and waited...and waited...and waited...and waited for delivery (Mine was from Feb. to Aug. of '03). I read everything I could on the Euro board and Hmarc's site. I had pictures of FJRs taped to the closet doors in my computer room and by magnets on the refrigerator....I DO understand the "sickness". There's only one cure and the attendant "farkle-itis" can be expensive (Moreso for those of you who have an S.O. to please!).

Uh....welcome to the group session:

"Hi, my name is Mike and I'm an FJR owner."

"Hi, Mike!" :clapping:

Resistance is futile...you will be assimilated.

I would highly recommend that you forget your fjrforum.com username and password. Continued logging in and reading will cause a rapid and huge depletion of cash from your bank accounts. Not that that is bad - you're helping stimulate the economy!!! :clapping: Resistance is futile :yahoo:

I was in your shoes 15 months ago - 21K miles later, a 5K mile trip planned to and from WFO-8, and farkling, I have be assimilated :yahoo: Done my part to help the economy, now it's your turn.

Glenn, I was living overseas in Turkey when the bike first came out in Europe. I was trying to make a deal with a Yamaha Dealer in London to have the bike shipped to Turkey so I could import this machine to the USA. In Europe the bags added $1400 and that was with the inner bags, but I could pick my color, Blue / Black or Silver. Then Yamaha offered it here and I ordered mine in March after having dinner in Turino yes Italy. When I called my dealer in New Haven, CT one of the owners had though I had lost my mind. I was told my bike would be shipped in October or November because I had waited so long to order it. The day before I left the states to go back home to Turkey they called and asked me if I wanted to get mine early. I took my last 2 weeks of vacation and picked up serial number 456. That was about 64K miles ago. So the fever never goes away. Did 2400 miles the first 2 weeks. That said I have the J&M audio system on the bike. It has a CB built in will take a ZUMO 550 GPS and will allow XM radio or IPOD or the ZUMO can play from a memory card. You can also get it so you can plug in a FRS radio into the system. :yahoo: :yahoo:

Glenn,

I started looking in 2005 for a bike. At the time I couldn't afford one. I came to this board often to read feedback from FJR owners. After going thru my review of different bikes over and over and over I kept coming back to the FJR. Finally in Oct 2007 I had the financial means for a bike and I picked up a new 07A. It was the first bike I had ever owned. The bike's acceleration, torque, braking, steering, cornering, farkle-ability, and sex appeal is incredible.

Make it your goal to get the bike you want whether it's an FJR, Harley, Triumph, Suzuki, Ducati, Motoguzzi, etc.

Also make it your goal to be out riding on a beautiful day, like right now, instead of sitting here browsing on this forum.

From the moment I decided I wanted an FJR , it took a whole year till I had one. From the first four months doing the research , to plunking the deposit down and waiting the next 8 months for a new one (as opposed to buying a "new" 05 model)

The wait to get my 06 was worth it.

So do yourself a favor like Nike said... and "Just do it".

And yes, come to the US and get it.

KM

Of the two dealers I am looking at one has two in stock and the other says 'put down a deposit and we'll get ya one in two weeks', so if all goes well I will get the in stock, in crate '09 FJR. Can't believe how I am like a kid in a candy store, but so much stuff has to fall in to place before this is doable...HEY Ducks! Please LINE UP!!!!

In the meantime, I have been 'cyber-farkling', not sure if that is a real term or not, but it should be. It means to pick out all the farkles on the internet that you like and find pictures of those farkles on the bike on the internet so you can better visualize the 'proposed' farkles on your non-existent motorcycle. Cool, huh?

Probably won't make it to the US to get the bike, but I have used my PC GPSing software to plan my first 'EPIC Road Trip'. It will be 6730 kms (one way!!!) covering 5 provinces and 11 US states. It will start in Calgary, Alberta, Canada and end in a small fishing village in South River, Newfoundland, Canada. I will have to take a month off to do it though (darn, hehehhe!) Almost 13500 kms constitutes an epic ride, right???

Normally to drive from one place to the other is about 5 days max, so with touring time on and a loop around the Cabot Trail thrown in, plus a family visit in Nova Scotia, I am thinking +/- 10 days. Then on the way back it is WFO for home, so the 5 days should be good....maybe even 4, I hope.

A good start. But ditch the family non-event and that gives you more riding time. Don't forget you need a fuseblock for the farkles and a powerlet or two. Heated gear is a must and handlebar risers may be needed. A good hydration system for the hot days and an auxiliary fuel tank will extend your range. Need any more ideas?

I'm in my seventh season on my '03 and have logged 52,000 miles - not bad in a climate where you can only ride 6 months a year.

While farkling may be fun and actually add some measure of functionality, it is not really necessary. Mine: Corbin seat, D&D bar risers, Yamaha tour windshield, T-Rex frame sliders, foam grips. That's it. These are all comfort items, with the exception of the sliders. The bike is pretty damned good-to-go right out of the box. In my opinion, you could use the $2-$3,000 in farkling money to cover touring expenses.
