Man, great find.

The irony of this:

  • I have read most of the comics that were on there.
  • I remember and have been tracking down those horrible, horrible old movies. Like the Thing. And Ben Hur? Man, what a timeless classic. Marlon Brando, John Wayne and Alfred Hitchcock all made their debuts in the 50's. And who could forget gems like Oklahoma, Singing in the Rain and Akira Kurosawa's films. Klaatu barada nikto.
  • I'm a big, big fan of 50's music, when Rock n Roll really was Rock n Roll. (It's also nostalgic from back home coz dad loves it too).
  • I'm sure I'm not the only one that loves the look of the 50's cars and whitewall tires. And drag races :) . Not to mention, there is something about being able to fix your own car that's a dying art... Ever heard a 21st century car misfiring on cylinder 3? It's bloody hard to tell because all the electronics tries to compensate. Older cars from way back when - piece of cake.
  • On my to-do list of things to do now that I'm in America is to go to the very, very first drive in theatre that ever opened. I did some research and apparently it's still running today, even though drive in theatres are not as popular as they once were.

But the biggest thing that I loved from the 50's that carried through to my youth...

Those model kits.

Something that I'm a little jealous of the older crowd...

People danced together. (Chubby Checker's "Twist" is sometimes hypothesised as being the reason the reason couples "split" when dancing)

Brando's best work was during the Fifties but Wayne and Hitchcock were making movies in the late Twenties and early Thirties. Wayne was doing stunt work and other bit parts in the Twenties.

While Stagecoach is often considered his break out role (1939) he probably made 80 some odd films prior to that.

Hitch was already a well known director and story weaver in England by the early Thirties.

Needless to say, we tend to remember them from when they first touched our lives.

For me...

First Hitchcock movie: Dial M for Murder.

First John Wayne movie: The high and mighty

First Marlon Brando film: Julius Caesar

Aaaah... such good times.

*adds those movies to his queue*
