This crash happened on one of my favorite roads near Hooterville. It happened on Hwy P south of Potosi Mo. Saturday afternoon. The lead rider goes wide in a off camber left hander and the two behind him follow him in. I don't know these guys personally, there the younger jeans and tennis shoe crowd. This is one of the things that scare me about group rides.. One guy was flown out the other two in the back of a meat wagon. I know there has been a lot of FJR crashes of late.. Lets be careful out there guy... And keep a safe distance with a little time in between bikes to stay out off trouble like this.. Smitty

I see some good gear laying out in the debris field, lets hope it did it's job, and the young guns will be alright.

Ugly scene, not something you want to run across on your day ride. Hope all the riders come through OK.

If two and three followed number one in, more than likely it's because of target fixation. Probably the number one reason for motorcycle accidents, especially amongst newer riders. Please remind new riders and practice, practice, practice... looking where you want the bike to go no matter what.

I followed a guy into a Hill Country corner once and just new he was in trouble. Lost sight as he dived into the right hander and out of my view for a second, but the brake light coming on was my clue as to possible trouble. Sure enough I round the corner and he's grabbed a handful of brake, low-sided across the road into a guardrail and the bike is now cartwheeling down the guardrail while he's behind it sliding along the guardrail and, I figured, bouncing off it also.

It was everything I could do not to look at that bike but continue to look through the corner to where I WANTED to go. You see a bike in your peripheral that's cartwheeling and throwing parts as it goes, it's hard not to be captivated by it and naturally want to watch. I knew if I looked I'd probably go the same place. Luckily, this day, the rider got up and walked away with minor injuries.

Target fixation will get a motorcyclist in a second. Remember and practice, look where you want the bike to go no matter what! Pass it on as I'm still surprised how many motorcyclist have never thought or heard of it.

First, I'm sorry for their injuries and for what they will endure until healed, if they are ever made whole.

Second, 3 words: Too Freakin' Fast!

Maybe too fast for ability, perhaps too fast for conditions, definitely too fast for the combination when the road surface/angle (off camber sweeping turn) is factored in. I wonder how the outcome might have been different if they'd been riding "The Pace", keeping 2-3 second spacing, and been riding 5 mph slower?

The more I read books on technique the more I find I don't know. The more I read about "fall downs" on the forum, the more I think I don't know (and evidently I'm not alone). The more I read about crashes like this one and one that was a fatality on Hwy 4 in the Sierras (last weekend), one of our favorite rides, the more I have decided to SLOW FREAKIN' DOWN.

What an amazing time I had riding along the Sacramento River today...scrubbing in my new tires...at the speed limit...enjoying the road, the scenery (Ahhh, young ones playing at water sports on the river!) and being out on the FJR. Bonus: I get to ride tomorrow because I came home safe today.

Sorry to hear but you hit the nail on the head as far as people riding outside of their comfort zone. Easy to get suckered into but the results can be horrendous. Another good reason to avoid group rides.

Dont know if meat wagon "slang" is different between states. But to me, "2 in meat wagon " leads me to believe the driver is the coroner. Hopefully It's not the case here.

Editted: seems I luckily was wrong, think in pic #3, bald headed guy (picking something up ) is wearing a spine protector, so must be one rider. Second rider has knee up. third is being worked on

All are alive thankfully.

First off I hope that they end up OK. My guess is they were in too deep and as mentioned above the riders were just fixated on the guy in fromt of them. Have found myself doing that in road races where I am drafting but in those cases you are only doing 25mph, not 60+.

Was behind a crowd of idiots today on a narrow twisting road that leads down to the KY River (Clays Ferry Rd).

No helmets, tennis shoes and shorts (with a few youg girls haning on for dear life at times) Besides the fact that they were across the yellow line because they were going too fast, the guy at the back of the back decides he is going to take his hands off the bars and lay down flat on his back (yes, lay down) with his hands out to his sides at 50mph and negotiate the turns. I just backed off a good 1/4 mile so I wouldn't run over this future Dawrin Award Winner. I watched his wobbly butt negotiate aa few to many corneds to closely, in fact he sat up quickly twice to correct it...scared the crap outta me just watching it.

The zx-14 rider is currently in ICU at a St. Louis hospital his is on a vent with two collapsed lungs, many broken ribs, broken collar bone, broken arm, broken leg, borken ankle, and several fractures of his spine.

The details of the cause of the accident are sketchy as all three riders where unconscious. I was not on this ride, but know several of the persons that were. I have ridden the road that the accident happened on hundreds of times. Based on the accounts of the accident that I have heard, I would guess that target fixation and speed were contributing factors to the cause.

Praying for a quick recovery for all riders involved.

That curve looks familiar... It's the one that everyone warns us about right? Any Barb wire tangled up with them? This sucks to read, But it happens all the time. :(

wow - that's quite a mess. Glad to hear they all survived.

Musta been going semi-legal speeds because that corner does not look that bad.

Another group of boy-racers learns a hard lesson about excessive speed on the street.

Oooh, custom paint on the Ninja. Ouch, that's really gotta hurt (the wallet).

Thats a standard paint job on the ZX-10R this year. The undertail exhaust confirms its a 10 and not a 14 ( well it was a 10)
