Just wanted to hear from those that ride Ortega highway about the condition of the road. I rode Ortega highway ALL the time for the better part of 10 years (1992-2002). Now that I have another street machine, I want to take a stroll up there. I know there is a ton of construction going on and do not know the details. Any input would be great. Thanks

Other than that, I haven't been there in three years.

By the way, you need to make your sig picture 3 x's bigger. I don't think anyone can see it.

Thanks for that! I made the picture bigger just for you! :)

I rode thru there a couple weeks ago on my first break in ride. The road is partially closed halfway thru and they let one direction pass at a time. It only delayed us about 5 minutes.

You should worry more about the cops. I think I saw at least 15 of them within a 1/2 hour and half of them had bikes pulled over. If you do ride it make sure you watch your speed.

Whereabouts in So Cal are you?

I've ridden the Ortega a few times recently. As previously stated, there is one section that is one way traffic. Waits vary from a couple of minutes to perhaps 20 minutes when they need to get some heavy equipment moved. The road surface varies from amazingly excellent, brand new black top, to lumpy bumpy stuff in the construction zone. There is nothing that an FJR cannot handle with ease.

If you've ridden the road in the past, you'll know to watch your top speed and watch all those super tight turns that an SUV cannot negotiate in a single lane, at the breakneck speed of 30mph!!! (IE watch for lane sharing morons on blind turns).

I rode it 2 Saturdays ago - E to W. The road was in great condition, but shut down to one lane for a bit as described above. At the stop I pulled past all the cars and lined up behind 10 Harleys and 2 Boss Hogs. I think the guys in front were wearing "real" colors (and ape-hangers to boot) and the guys in back had generic HD patches. Regardless, they slowed everyone down - including the old ladies in Chevys. Unfortunately we followed them all the way to SJCapistrano.

It was a beautiful day but very windy. I've only traveled that road a couple times over the past 10 years because of the double-fine signs (which I didn't notice this time?) and LEO infestation. Did not see one cop on this trip. Never seen it so incredibly green like this - just beautiful. Dropped into Dana Point Harbor for a nice walk.
