We are also doing the 3 Flags this year. I believe it will be #6. Long days in the saddle but not iron but either. Good roads, good people, good times.

I've done 8 3 Flags spread out over 30+ years, including the last two with my bride as pillion - but that itch has been scratched, no more for us.

Take a look at the route and plan your overnight accommodations in advance if possible. I always liked to plan backwards so that the finishing day was not more than 1/2 the mileage of the other days - as this would allow me some emergency repair time possibly without preventing a finish. It is also a lot of fun to watch the action at the finish line as the deadline gets close.

One year in Edmonton a Gold Wing rider who had been fighting a leaking tire for 2 days came into the parking lot with 2 minutes to spare - and he'd been highly extra-legal speed wise for the last hour. Amazingly enough he didn't tow any LEO's in with him!

Have fun - we have lots of great memories - too bad they don't actually run the route under the Mexican flag anymore - another consequence of 9/11...

Fron the checkpoints listed It looks like they give you plenty of time to sight see. It would be tempting to either look for sights and attractions along the way OR consult the best MC roads and take your time in route. Spend some time in BC. After the ride. IMO BC is near the top of the list of places to cycle.

Have fun!

Thx for the good wishes. BC is my backyard, I live near Vancouver. Not many BC roads I havent been on between bike and auto.

My plan is to keep to the suggested checkpoints/overnights. Same with the suggested route, but I am open to any ideas of 'what to see on the way' thru the eastern side of CA/OR/WA. (someone already has pointed out Sullivan Lake Rd (DH12) near Ione)

Considering staying on 395 (back into CA) from Fernley instead of north on 447 in NV.

In BC, its time to re-ride Barnhartvale Rd (off 97 east of Kamloops DH68) the rest of the route is pretty good as is. Thinking I will bypass the Hiway 1 traffic from Nanaimo and take the Tsawwassen ferry instead. On a holiday Monday, my route thru Vancouver should be easy-peasy. (Famous last words, I know)

If you havent already, be sure to check out Hiway 8 between Spences Bridge and Merritt (DH9) you will like this road.

Thx also to Dave for words of encouragement.

-Steve
