I'm not much of a mechanic, so maybe somebody has seen this issue and can offer a diagnosis.

My 2011 has this intermittent issue. Usually with warm engine, after a stop for lunch say, upon restart and brief idle period, applying very little throttle, the engine will just die. It's pretty immediate, throttle on, engine off. Not even a slight rev. The only thing that remedies the stalling is allowing it to idle for 10-15 seconds and then applying some gradual throttle.

Otherwise, no lingering issues with how the engine performs.

Bike has about 14k, no engine mods, original air filter. I've run a few Sea Foam treatments thru, with no noticeable change.

Thanks

MikeP

You don't tell us what the idle is set to. If less than 1100 RPM when warm....then adjust it up. Talked about recently here and many other places.

Your WARM idle should be set to about 1200 RPM, where does yours settle down when the engine is warmed up (4 bars on the temp gauge)?

I guess I don't know the exact warm idle rpm. It can't be off very much, but I'll check this evening.

I saw a few posts concerning that issue, but didn't think the symptoms matched.

Thanks

Well, we're to the process of elimination. If you're idle is correct and this continues, then we'll do more high-speed speculation. The symptoms may not match 'exactly' but they're close enough that I was gonna suggest idle speed also. When that many of us key into the same possible solution, it's because we've already seen it a lot.

If proper idle speed doesn't fix it, I'd check battery terminals. A loose ground could cause the same issue and they're always weird. This bike is VERY sensitive about its connections.

If that doesn't do it, I'd move on to vacuum caps to make sure they're all secure and not cracked/leaking.

One thing at a time until it's fixed,so you know which fix cured it.

Good luck!

Thanks for the insight. I have to agree with the consensus. What's the old quote about "40,000 Frenchmen can't be wrong....." I forget.

My gut feeling is it's nothing as serious as grounds or connections, since it only occurs from idle at restart. I've never had an issue while under way.

Thanks

Well, the idle was set a bit low, around 800rpm. I adjusted it up to 1100, will see in the coming days how it goes.

thanks

Mikep1300, Pls let us know if upping the idle remedied the problem. My riding buddy has a 2012 and experiencing the same issue. I told him to ck the idle RPM. He is traveling abroad so hopefully if that fixes your problem he can benefit as well. Tks.
