Was on back oerder when I ordered it too. Took about 8 days to arrive. I called the guy. Nicest guy on the planet and made me feel comfortable so I paid him and waited. Worth it!!! Patience is not my long suit either but still worth it

Just remove the center spring -- good to go!!!!
do you really mean completely remove the center spring? I did give the one turn remedy a try and am still not happy with throttle response. It took a lot of the fun out of the Dragon and inserted a few pucker moments that were not appreciated.

I slipped mine off the end of the "tang" and it flew around and caught the tang again. I slipped it off again and it is fine -- much easier but still returns the throttle just fine -no problem at all -- definitely the way to go. Turn the throttle and watch the spring. At about half throttle it may start to hit the tang but you won't even feel it as there is no tension at that point.

I ordered mine, I think it showed up in two days, pretty quick I would say. Make sure you beat off the old tube with a hammer!

i called today, nice guy, said he should have them in on either friday or monday.

OK, so I got an email from Sam at G2 and I'm guessing it's the #400 cam profile. Is this the right one?

It's just too damned disconcerting to start to roll out of a curve, nothing happens and then about the time my brain realizes nothing happened and rolls on more throttle, the damn engine springs to life. :dribble:

I ordered the G2 40-400 as was suggested by this group. Sam sent me and email and I guess they're out until Thursday. So I'll start with the G2 and we'll go from there. Thanks, everyone!

On another note I am more and more impressed by the FJR. I litterally can't find much wrong with it. There's no heat issue, no seat problem thus far, the bike handles like a dream and puts a huge grin on my face. I rode it through Bisbee tonight (long way home) and coming up through Mule Canyon the bike just rode like the curves were programed into the machine. Amazing!

i called sam and ordered one yesterday, despite his saying they're still out. he said the machinist that makes them for him has been out sick and has cut production down about half, but thought he'd get them in today (tuesday). he absolutely postively guaranteed them for anything, any reason i didn't like it, return it; any problems at all with install call him and he'd guide me through it. sounds like a really super guy, in the old-fashioned, small-business take care of the customer kind of way.

did some curve-carving for the first time on sunday, and noticed very abrupt throttle response; had not really noticed it as a problem before (noticed it, tho), but it did make a difference in my attempting to be smooth out of the corners; wasn't much "rolling" going on (as in slow, look, lean, roll), more like slow, look, lean, jerk.

yesterday on one of my more enjoyable onramps, i popped my cherry and scraped my right peg-feeler. didn't think i was as leaned over as i have been on my fj (with modified suspension including modded dogbones). i haven't touched my suspension, will have that adjusted in a month or so by a buddy who knows how to get it just right. have people addressed this issue with just a different shock? or have people changed out dogbones to slightly raise up the rear?

OK, before this get's exiled to the "Never ending.....meaningless...." Let me say that I've searched this forum and the FJR tech site and can't find pics of the spring fix for the throttle response "issue" on the FJR. I know it's around here somewhere because I've read some posts on it. There was one about backing the tension on the throttle spring out to help. Is it on this site?
The problem is that the spring force (IMO) is too strong and the throttle either "snatches" on or off too quick. I know why Yamaha does it, due to the CARB restrictions/emmissions but it does make riding the FJR a little more touchy than if the throttle required a little less force and the rolloff was a bit more gentle.

For the present I don't want to remap anything or modify the electronics. If I could just soften the roll-off I think I'd be happy. :unsure:

Thanks!

Search throttle spring and there is a topic Lighten up some - I tried to set up a link but screwed it up.

It took more than the G2 to smooth out my 07. It took...

* Cable slack adjustment

* G2 Tube

* Precise throttle body sync

* PC-III

* Oversize grips/grip puppies

2005 clutch slave cylinder also helps the herky-jerky during gear changes.

Just my $.02

Looks like I'll be busy.

got the g2 throttle tube today. i had also purchased some thicker grips, the sunline grand touring grips, and was just waiting on the g2 tube to get back in stock to get delivered to do the whole mod at once.

got everything off and on without too much of an issue. the dude that assembled my fjr, that didn't tighten the frame bolts where skyway's sliders are now, made up for it with the two bolts holding the throttle assembly. those ******* were on tight, took a few whacks with a hammer on the allen wrench to get them off.

i did have an issue once i got the g2 tube back on, the throttle wouldn't return closed. i called sam up, as he suggested i do so if i had _any_ problems (quoting him) whatsoever. mind you, this was about 5p on a saturday, eastern time. sam answered, and gladly solved my issue. the g/t grips have closed ends, and that was causing the throttle to hang up and not snap closed. so i cut off the end, and viola, nice and snappy.

i can't comment on high speed performance, but just taking the fjr for a quick 20mph ride to the end of our street and back, i could notice the difference, and this is what immediately came to mind: you know when you took the motorcycle safety foundation course beginners course (you _have_ taken that course, haven't you?), and you used their little 250 bikes, you know how if you cranked on the throttle too hard, it would just sort of cut off the engine, not stall it, but just hold it at idle or just over? that's what the mod reminded me off, except when i would just give it mild throttle, it was nice and smooth, like it was on the msf bikes. crank it, and you get the full fjr13 punch, but in nice easy throttle twists, you get nice easy power delivery. i'm very happy so far, but again, will have to test it in high-speed corner operation.

EDIT

------

as i posted somewhere else on the forum, after a weekend trip to the motorcycle playground, little switzerland, and other lovely roads where i could appropriately test minute throttle adjustments in twisties, the g2 mod did not satisfactorily tame the abrupt throttle herky-jerkiness; nor did adjusting the throttle cable. a buddy of mine, a suspension whiz, took it for a ride to get the feel of my suspension, and about tore my head off when he returned and said it was downright dangerous. i agreed. the throttle spring mod did tame it to a 90% satisfaction, however.

+1, Now my 06 has the most precise throttle response I have ever had the pleasure of twisting.... smooooth sailing :yahoo:

Folks,

I'm working with Sam from G2 on a Group Buy for not only the #400 cams, but others as well.

For instance, I'm actually looking for snappier throttle response, while others want a milder throttle. I will be testing all 6 cams on Gen. I and II bikes.

Stay tuned,

GZ

I'm interested in a G2 cam.

Do you have any idea about price yet ?

THX! :clapping:

What did it for me was the throttle spring relax and cable freeplay to minimum spec (3mm); just perfect. But I became a master of throttle control with my exBMW, so might not be a typical result; am just happy don't need anything else on the throttle.

Moving on to the surging, it's a different story there. CO changes didn't help one bit. Am waiting for a new carb synch tool to precisely synch the TBs, which I'll do along with the engine and final drive oil changes (401 miles now). Will also bump the idle to 1150 or 1200 (helped FZ1s with our same problem in '06). Hopefully that will help too to make the problem more tolerable. Later gang.

I too undid my center spring and let it turn freely on the shaft and that made the tension more to my liking. While I was in there I decided that my throttle cables had too much free play so I tightened them up. That was a mistake for my liking! It made the throttle too sensitive to every little bump. I ended up loosening the throttle cables back to how they were from the factory which was fairly loose when looking at them.
