I am new to the FJR and my throttle is hard to open is there a good way to make it easier to hold open?

'06 and '07 are the two worst years for throttle tension and sensitivity. You might try to unwind one turn of the throttle return spring and or the G2 Ergonomics Throttle Tamer throttle tube.

Honestly a half-hearted search will net you all the information you could ever use on this issue.

Samr,

The search terms that should be a help to you are "throttle spring" and "unwind." It's a popular mod, so you should find several references to the process. I recommend that you attach a strong string to the spring, before you release the spring from the post, so you can control how far the spring unwinds (slow is good, there). Without the string, the spring may unwrap two turns instead of one, and it's a real trick to get that spring back one turn. When done correctly (just one turn released), riders here report a world of difference in the throttle control, as a result.

If the Search function onboard here is not productive, you can direct Google to search only this web site by adding

SITE:https://www.fjrforum.com

after your search terms. In your case, this search string on Google should do the job:

"throttle spring" unwind SITE:https://www.fjrforum.com

Just checking what the OP is saying ...

It shouldn't be "hard to open". It should be smooth and easy to open. It might have too much tension making it tiring to keep open, and the "cam" style throttle might also benefit from the Tamer, suggested above.

But it shouldn't be binding, or feel rough or stiff.

Lubing the throttle cables, and the throttle tube itself may also help. It only needs to be done occasionally, but it is one of those minor maintenance tasks that sometimes gets missed.

I use a cable lube injector to do the two throttle cables, and lithium soap grease or silicone grease work fine for the throttle tube.

The spring unwind mod will help ease the tension, whereas proper lubrication will make it smooth.
