O, Woe is me!!
Well, I went to go see what I could see. Seven venues, I think, I only went to three. The new one this year was the Marriot Bay Point Beach Resort, and they may not get the privilege again. They had a lot set aside for bikes, but it filled up and the bikes overflowed into the lots meant for residents and hotel guests, and they were coming home from their doings and finding themselves with no place to park. Many were strikingly unhappy.
It wasn't the fault of the riders, it was a poor job by the organizers in policing the lots. They had a guy at the gate that said "that way" and that's all we got for guidance.
Anyway, saw a coupla nice bikes there, this one from when Gold Wings were just regular bikes with cool engines:
When the Gold wing got all decorated and stuff, and started selling faster than it could be made, all the Japanese marques got into the act. Here's a nice Yamaha Venture Royale, V4 smoothness (and narrowness.)
Next venue I visited was the "main" venue at the west end of the beach. This venue actually seemed down on vendors from previous years, and I didn't see as many non-cruisers around, either. I almost didn't get out there, as traffic was as god-awful as I've ever seen it here. I was clutching in 1st gear for four miles before I got there. Jan wanted to go, so go we did.
Ran into Darryl, a local fireman on this forum as djlhfd05, although not exactly active, standing now at 2 posts. . . Here he is from an event a year ago almost to the day, didn't get his picture today. We each had our missuses with us, so we got to meet them for the first time.
I think this is his bike, found while wandering the parking area. I noticed perhaps the cleverest farkle I've ever seen:
The clutch lever converts into a sidestand pad! That's Kewl!!!
Another Feej, apparently an Air Force guy! Someone thought the clutch lever/sidestand pad farkle was so cool they stole the connector/converter cable. Don't know how this guy got home!
While there I wandered the parking areas looking for bikes to shoot. Not a whole lot this trip, which makes putting up with traffic (both arriving and departing) really annoying.
ZRX1200R
GS1100L
Triumph America. Never actually seen one o' these before.
CB750K. Not as classic as it coulda been, like an '81, but still pretty cool old bike!
Not an ST1300, a Pan-European. (OK, it is an ST1300, but not here it isn't.)
I've forgotten what this one is, shamefully enough. Yamaha, shaft drive, just screams 1980's. Looks like mounting highway pegs onto the engine covers is not a new idea:
Geico had their Dyno-Drag set up. Fun to watch, folks lined up, got three runs in each pairing, and the PA announced their reaction time, 1/4-mile ET and MPH, and rear wheel HP. No, I didn't particiipate. I honestly felt the car tire would give me an unfair advantage. . . . .
M109R, like my son rides, but his is silver, not ORANGE!!!!
Next venue, a smaller space, seemingly just as many bikes:
Replica paint job:
Front fenders sucker me into taking pics every time I see one:
