Hey,

As per BTSinAustin's recommendation, I'm going to check out Hwy. 1431 from Marble Falls to Austin tomorrow, Thursday, July 3. I'm heading up to Marble Falls from San Antonio around 9:30 a.m., so I expect to be in Marble Falls (Hwy. 281 and 1431) around 11:00 a.m. I don't know what landmarks are close to that intersection but if anybody wants to join in, I'll be somewhere around there on my new 08 (black).

Saw this too late, (and I'm working...), but 1431 is a pretty cool road. You actually come into Cedar Park, not Austin, but close enough. Another good road is 1174, which heads North from 1431, probably about halfway between Marble Falls and Cedar Park, and branches either to Oatmeal or Bertram, where you can catch 29. Lot of cool roads to ride around here, PM me if you're gonna be up in the area again.

Be careful as you approach the MF side of 1431. there's a convenience store on the N side of the road and people are always making turns into it without watching for other traffic.

If you're willing to take it easy I'll tell you about Lime Creek Rd. (off of 1431). Since there's deer in the area and some corners may have gravel in them (and there's decreasing radius turns throughout), you have to be careful these days on LCR.

Hey all,

Sorry for the last minute notice but thanks for the other road recommendations. I'll try to plan ahead next time. Just wanted to say that I loved 1431. I'll be there again soon and am willing to take it easy on Lime Creek Rd. next time. Heck, I'll just make a day ride based off of all your recommendations. 1431, 1174, 29. Sounds like a blast!

I know I'm preaching to the choir, but 1431 is exactly the kind of road where an FJR can be fully appreciated. I was cruising what I thought to be pretty carefully, since I hadn't been on the road before, when I looked down and realized I was going 75-80 mph.

Thanks again and I hope we can cruise together sometime soon. I'll take you up on the offer jm.

I know what you mean. I was on that road the Sunday before last, coming back home, and running about 80. I saw a Williamson County Sheriff, way too late, and he went by me, doing this strange wave; extending an open palm, closing it, then opening it again. It took me a few hundred yards to realize he was reminding me of the speed limit, "5...5"! You don't get too many chances in Williamson County, so I guess I was lucky. :yahoo:

Have you heard that locals are wanting to straighten out the western side to be more like that between Lago Vista and I-35?

That's already happening slowly. There's a large section closer to Marblefalls that's already under contruction all the way to where 1174 turns off.

Yep. In fact, this Thursday and Friday, there are strict water restrictions in Leander, as they have to shut off the main 30" supply pipe to work on it where it runs in that area. Lot of folks have died on that section of road.
