Well my 2005 has become a ticker for sure at only 13000kms. Sounds just like the audio file on here and has started over the last 2k. What’s the opinion on this these days?

1 - Spend the $$ and fix it asap

2 - Fix it when you can but be gentle

3 - Ride it like you stole it and spend the $$ on farkels.

Was going to post tomorrow but couldn’t wait :) .

Thanks all folks

Josh

4 - Change the VIN and speedo to become a U.S. bike, call Cypress, and see if they will still fix tickers. Immigrating optional.

And how exactly have you confirmed your diagnosis? 13000km seems low to me to develop it.

I would go with #3 until it blows too much oil that they won't let you park it at work anymore or compression drops badly, and fix it then. It maybe be 30-50km from now.

Work is a non issue I am the owner actually leased a bigger spot where i can park the bike in the wharehouse area :) . I have used my auto stethescope and pin pointed to a noise from the heads right around the back of the head. Gets the loudest there. Seems to get worse between 3000-4000 rpm. Kind of what i would call a floating tick noise. Seems to flutter at different RPM. Was definatly not there eailier in its life.

Thanks,

Josh

Should be in the front of the head on the left side. The tick comes from loose exhaust guides. Sounds like normal noise to me.

Don't believe you can ride it hard enough in 7k miles to develop "The Tick". Your description of locating the noise "at the back of the head" precludes the "typical" tick, which was exhaust valves on cylinders 1 and 2, which would narrow the noise down to the FRONT of the head, at the left side of the motor from the rider's perspective.

Think you're hearing something else. "Back of the head" could be injectors clicking. Stick your stethoscope on an injector, or at least, on a hard part at one of the intake tubes and see if your sound matches up.

Like what Iggy said, if it IS the dreaded "tick", you won't really notice any other symptoms, other than the noise, until the motor starts pumping oil out the exhaust in another 30,000 or so kilometres.

Ok my bad. My car brain made me say back when yes it was the exhaust on the front. I think exhaust i think back of the head. Duh. Sorry.

Don't forget the possibility of the CCT. I thought mine was a ticker too until I replaced the CCT. Now working great!

So what would one do to figure out what the noise really is???

It does sound just like the audio file on here. I am going by my local shop next week. They have some good guys. The "good" yama dealer mechanic works there now :) .

Thanks for the help. Kinda sad with such low use to be making noise.

There are pretty definitive ways to determine the "ticker" issue -- search & read the 'tick files' on the Forum.

Without a sound file of your bike, no one here can really help you with the sound -- even then, it'd probably have to really obvious (sound-wise)?

Hope they're as good as your faith in them appears to be -- many on the Forum aren't so dealer-complimentary.

Yes sir. Had a few miles from some use by the dealer owner but it was new. I changed the oil quite frequently when i first got it. This is really the first year i have put many miles on it myself.

Missed out on CFR too. DOH...Right in my back yard (sort of).

I had an '05 ticker that was repaired. Mine started ticking at about 15,000 miles.

I seriously doubt that at 8500 miles yours is ticking because it has just not been enough miles for the exhaust valve guides to erode out due to lack of lubrication.

Going to do some digging this weekend with a friend who is a mechanic. See if we can locate the noise. Hoping for a loose braket or somthing :detective2:

Thanks for the help.

Just don't **** around with the cam chain tensioner unless you're 1,000,000% SURE of what you're doing!

No worries there. No time or intrest these days. I have done a few car and bike strip and rebuilds but waiter to busy with work the last couple years. That's why I bought the FJR. Or atleast that was the plan :) . The farkling has recently begun to ge going with no end in sight :)
