My 05 does'nt tick yet,11,500 on the odo,but I was in my dealer picking up some brake pads for my 91 zr 750 kaw.it does'nt tick yet either 33,450 miles. anyway the service manager tells me that yamaha sais run the bike down agear or two to spin close to 5000 rather than between 3 to4,of course the bike lives at 3 to4 in normal riding. this is a large reputable dealer I have delt with for over 20years. I do not plan on doing this figure just ride the bike normally and get the bike fixed if need be at yamaha's expence. Has anyone been told this by their dealer?

In all the back and forth about the "tick", that is the first time I have heard that ridiculous assertion.

Complete and utter horseshit if you ask me.

Apex...this is not the first mention of rpm as it relates to the oiling system. When I was at the bike show last winter, the Yami rep (when I asked about ticking) told me the "dry" seal design was engineered to allow greater oil flow to the guides at very high revs. The down side to that is allot of us ride at low revs because the tremendous torque moves us along quite well without revving up. I don`t know for a fact what is going on here. Anything is possible. If you consider the fact that the factory has changed the FJR seals to a "wet" design, there may be some merit to what your dealer says! :assassin:

They also changed the exhaust valve guides for '06. Before, all 16 valves had the same guides. For '06 the intake valves continue with the previous guides and the exhaust valves get new, revised guides.

Actually, I wouldn't say horeshit here. It is a possible cause. I am pretty sure I'm developing the tick, and have a big habit of riding in the low rev range. One could also infer that this is one of the reasons that the gearing on the '06 is higher. If the oiling system/pump also changed, that would be more evidence on a possible cause of the tick.

Just my uninformed conjecture, flame away if you must...

Threads like this are making me develop a tick. Hmmmm. Now where'd I put my assault rifle...

Vales and guides aren't lubed from pressured oil from pump, directly.

Oil that gets pushed out of cam areas is thrown around and hits them.

If it was an oil pressure problem, cams and head would get the damage first.

05 ticker. Started at about 11k.
