some advice/help needed please!i bought an 03fj back in january this year from a local yammy dealer read as much as i could on the fj mainly from alot of you on the other fj site :D read all about the ticking and understood the risk.i brought up the tick to the salesman and the service manager, got the typical,oh thats just internet bs.all genesis motors make noise, chain tesioner and so on. so with the dealer giving me a 2 year yes warranty i felt pretty good about my purchase.i rode the bike 3000 miles since january, a week ago i started to feel vibrations thru handle bars and footpegs never felt before. also bike is surging, best way to describe is on throttle off throttle feeling, only at a cruise does it do this never under acceleration.and to top this week off i took the fj out for a spin i put on an old hemlet that i never worn while riding the fj 1st gear, damn this bike pulls hard :D 2nd gear  wtf is that noise :dribble: oh its true!!! yammy has installed a stainless steel sink with forks and knives in my motor. with all that said i now have to take this bike back to the dealer that told me the tick is bs. kinda see where my problem is going.number 1 question is a surging problem covered by yes warranty or is this a problem im going to have to pay to have fixed.i can hear it now "surging is just internet bs they all do that" Secondly, the dealer will never admit my bike ticks but i know it does. being i made an issue of this before bike purchase i feel very awkward about bringing up the tick issue with them. any advice ,opinions Thanks

You might want to take your bike to a different dealership. Seems like the guy your dealing with has his head up his a$$.

On the surging, it's normal for the FJR because the factory settings have the bike run pretty lean. I've heard people fix it doing a Throttle Body Sync, installing a Power Commander or doing the Barbarian Jumper mod.

You can read all about it on Warchild's FJR Tech website Great site with great info.

Good luck with your ticking issue.

The issue that causes the most grief between you and everyone else when it comes to the tick is who's gonna pay for it. A dealer will be happy to do any work he gets paid to.

The problem is that until it is shown that the valve guides are what is causing the problem you the owner will be on the hook for the bill. As long as you can get past that part everything will go smoothly, as long as your service guy dosen't stick his head in the sand and stick to the "they all do that and it's normal" line.

So you just go in with the noise and say you don't think its normal and you want it fixed, whatever it is, and if you absolutely have to, as a last resort, you tell them you know the 40 guys that had their guides replaced (us) and they should contact Yamaha about it.

Like I said, thats a very last resort. If you have to do that I think you should find another dealer first.

But the single most important thing is, whatever you do, DO NOT SAY I HAVE BAD GUIDES AND WANT THEM REPLACED> YOU WILL BE RESPOSIBLE FOR THE COST OF THE REPAIR!!! It makes noise, you want it fixed, let you know how much it will cost BEFORE you do the repair. Leave bike at dealer and wait for call.
