I don't mind the stock windscreen but I'd like a dark tint on it.

Anyone try tinting their windscreen with a spray can tint product?

If so what did you use?

Can't use traditional window tint as the tint has to be heat shrunk to match the contour of the sheild and the tint shop I took it too said the plastic was getting too soft from the heat.

Thanks,

So Cal

Boiling type Ritz dye works pretty good , you'll need a large shallow pan that you can put the windshield in and fill with enough water to cover..Then heat....Wirks good on racecar plexiglas parts....Leave in until dark enough.....Lots of color options....

Thanks for the suggestion, no problems with the boiling hot water on the shield??

Does not have to be boiling but as hot as you can stand it on your hand , never tried it just warm.....My guess is the hotter it is the faster it works.....

Ok Thnaks Ed...I'll look into it.

Well, tried the RITZ liquid dye today and it didn't work.

I had my doubts but figured I'd give it a try, screen didn't soak up ANY of the black dye I used even after sitting in the dye and hot water for an hour.

Not sure what I'll try next........

Ok, spray tint looks good from the outside but not so good from the inside where I sprayed, looks very "painted".

So I broke down and ordered a Cal Sci "Shorty" tinted screen. I like the sporty look of the short screen VS the larger touring screens.....and the touring screens don't come tinted.

I would have given it much more time --day or so depending on how dark......and more time for lower temp........That is for plexiglass, not shure what Yammie uses..

I was told the screen is polycarbonate or Lexan......is that the same as Plexiglass??

Short answer - No - I need a new windshield on my airplane , was thinling about trying Lexan this time...I'll have to play with the tint for it too...

Cal Sci screen came today....don't have that oem foam gasket for the new screen, how important is that gasket??
It isn't. Bolt on the new screen. You'll never miss it.
Dude.. SoCal You need to seriously relax bub.. Your continued worrying about non issues is getting bothersome.

Maybe you need to relax.

I asked a simple question, I don't know if it's a "non-issue" that's why I asked, usually gaskets are placed in position for a reason.

If my posts are "bothersome" to you you don';t have to read them.

SoCal,

Concerning all this recommended relaxing, I was playing with my new grand daughter today. I noticed that when she can't find her pacifier, she's always looking for something to chew on...

Concerning the gasket, mine's got a gasket on one side, and the other one disappeared years ago. Doesn't seem to have made any difference in 23k miles.

Good luck with that new CalSci. From what I've read about them recently, they make some great screens.
