I finished the installation of the group buy suspension, (Thanks Warchild) only to find my bike had a pretty large lean angle when on the sidestand. The rear shock was longer than the original even after shortening it as far as it would go. The front forks, while no longer than original, did not have as much sag to them so that contributed to the problem. I couldn't lower the bike anymore so.............I guess I'll raise the ground! Here is the recipe:

Take a chunk of 1/4" aluminum flat stock, hacksaw and file for 2 hours till it resembles the shape of the sidestand foot, only bigger. File the bottom of the sidestand flat, (it is not flat from the factory). Drill and tap 2 10/32 holes in the foot and locktite some countersunk screws in there.

If you don't have the right length screws just grind them off.

Touch up with Rustoleum

It gives a better (not as much) lean angle on the side stand, has a larger footprint by about 250%, and doesn't hit the exhaust.

Good one!

Nice job..... and it looks good also. Thanks for the idea.
The idea of course came from Skyway, but those never got into production as best I can tell. Besides. I needed a taller one to compenstae for the suspension mod. I also didn't want to see the screws as much. I thought about having them produced at a little local machine shop to distribute, but most people probably aren't up for drillng and tapping. Skyway's was a much simpler instalation.

Nice job, simply & cleanly executed! The aluminum might wear more quickly than the steel screws, but replacement should be a whiz when/if the time comes, ...just don't wait 'til the slot is worn off the screw head.

As for whose idea it is, ...assuredly Ian can take the credit for his variant, & especially on this Forum of course [no attempt to highjack any credit from his creative endeavors which are deservedly well recognised in these parts]; but I built essentially the same thing for my'76 Guzzi about ten years ago [out of steel {thinner} & just welded it on]. Also, please don't misunderstand, I'm NO WAY claiming the notion was mine either! I doubt this little fix is really attributable at this point, or that it was anywhere near a new thought even ten years ago.

S76,

Had a rainy day and made a plate for my kickstand using your info; thanks! I'll feel bit more secure parking the bike on the side of the road and parkig lots.
