I am trying to find a happy medium between tire wear, road conditions and handling.
In different parts of the country road crews use the materials available to surface roads.
Here the DOT uses a chip seal process with a crushed granite type of rock.
This makes the road extremely abrasive to the tires.
In my case I have worn out a set of ME 880s in 7000 miles on my cruiser, and a set of 80000 mile car tires in only 32000 miles.
What I am wondering, would it be better to go to a harder type of tire or softer tire.
I know areas who use a smoother type of aggregate would want a sticky tire.
In these areas the tire will last a lot longer.
Since I ride these 2 bikes 80% or so in this area what do you think would be a good compound or structure type of tire?
I am not fishing for a tire brand.
