I'm taking a 6-7,000 mile trip from Iowa to SF through Montana, Idaho & Oregon. I'm returning through Nevada, Utah, New Mexico & Colorado. If my Avon 46 lasts like the last one, I'll need a new one somewhere between SF and Ouray. I'd appreciate suggestions for a dealer along the road that stocks the tire and will mount and balance it on short notice. TIA, Ian, Iowa

Ian, are you leaving with a brand new one mounted? I would take off the current one and keep hold of it. Remount it when the other one wears out. I was considering this for my vacation this summer, but since I'm building a trailer to tow behind the FJR, I'm just going to carry new ones with me. Good luck.

Yes, I think I would start with a new tire, then perhaps you don't have to worry about it along the way. I would hope that all those highway miles would extend the mileage well beyond 6-7K miles. Aren't owners reporting sometime 10-11K miles on those tires?

We you get back, please give us a trip report! Have a great trip.

Left Fairbanks in July with a new set of Avons, fully anicipating a new rear at least before journeys end but did 11K miles on the set. Front was cupped badly and rear was square but still had grip in the rain, and made the whole trip. Changed back to previous tires when I got home. I've been running Avons for about 30 years, but this the 45/46 combo surprised me. Good tires. B)

Thanks for the help, maybe I'll make if if I act my age. Ian, Iowa

If you end up going through Reno, NV on the way back, you can always stop off at Reno Powersports, they change tyres while you wait if you call a little in advance.

The other place, which I heartily recommend, is California Sport Touring, they are located in Hercules, a suburb of San Fran. Kim yeong I belive is the owner and hooked up 3 of my riding buddies with new Avon 45st's when we were returning to Florida from the MotoGP in July.

Really competitive prices,

Avon Azaro ST AV46 180/55R-17 Rear

I think www.casporttouring.com was actually the better fitted price.
