So, this may be shot over to NERPT, but here goes: I need some tires soon. Looking at these two choices (both great deals IMO..)

Pirelli Angel St.'s $219.99 for the PAIR free shipping (!!!). Competition Accessories..

OR

Dunlop Roadsmart $219.99 for the PAIR free shipping (!!!). Cycle Gear...

So, same exact price, which would you do--prefer responses from those that have had either one before. FWIW, I always ride solo, and performance/safety is more important than long mileage for me....

Thanks for any help!

I can't comment on the Angels, yet, but the Roadsmart front is junk IMHO. The rear is an ok/good tire.

I will just say, there have been too many problems with Roadsmarts from the ST guys. Internal separations, etc. I would stay away from them.

Feel free to go to www.Derbycycles.net and pic up a set of Michelin PR2's for $235.00 and free shipping. I'm not sure why you didn't include them as one of your choices but they are great tires.

I've never had a bad Roadsmart, nor any problems with handling, but I have never tried Pirellis. I always get two rears for each front, Roadsmart or my other favorite, Michelin PRII. I do get about 2-3,000 more miles on the PRII compared to the Roadsmart, but they have in the past been a bit pricier than they are now. In my opinion the PRII at Bigbeavek's suggestion is a great deal.

These are great tires for this bike. And this DerbyCyles deal is a great price ($70 off the pair...hard to beat).

Big +1

Cheers,

FYI unless you are going to mount the tires yourself check if any local dealers will change them and how much. I bought a pair of Brigestones BT021 from Competition Accessories great prices and delivery. BUT the dealers in the St Petersburg / Tampa area woukdn't touch them if they didn't sell them insurance, liabiity reasons. I had to send them back and Barney's Yamaha sold me the same tires for only $10.00 more. and installed them for $85.00 and even washed the bike. Being on vacation the option of DIY wasn't availble. So far I've been pretty happy with the tire choice, about 2000 miles so far so good.

Angels fly much better than the big, white Michelin Man. But you can roll the Michelin Man further. Your choice.

RoadSmart rear is a good choice, but the front is junk on an FJR. You can run a RoadSmart rear with an Angel front. Michelins don't play well with others, period!

Not considering the Metzeler Z6 Roadtec Interact??

IMHO a great tire - I'm on my 2nd set.

Many here do not "appreciate" the Z6, but for my riding they work great.

I don't know about the Angels, but the Roadsmarts I'm not a fan of.

It really depends on what you want, better grip or longer mileage tires. I like Michelin's for both, the Pilot Power is an awesome tire but will wear rapidly on the heavy FeeJ. The Pilot Road2 is a great tire for mileage the grip could be better, but hey, you can't have it all. Also I like Dunlop's that are more grippy. The mileage tire, Roadsmart, I don't like at all. Well, it was great for the first couple thousand miles, then it went away.

I do like the Michelin PR2's on sale at Derbycycle.net for about $236 OTD, includes the free shipping.

You're welcome! :D :bleh:

I agree on the front Roadsmart being crap. Wears unevenly for most riders. The rears are not really an issue, but not anything outstanding either. No one has worn out Angles yet, so that's up in the air.

Thanks for the responses. Especially from those riders here that have been through lots of tires. My bike's just at 8400 miles and I'm ready for my third set. Dunlops looked promising from other reviews I read but I'll go with the consensus here and x them out. Really liked the BT021's that came stock--until the front vanished on me to the point of me having to leave WFO a day early last year (after several other attendees looking over my front and going--"good luck getting home..").

Have considered another 021 on the back.

The PR2 Kool Aid is very strong and I expected those replies. Darkside--I'll do that about the same time I win the lottery and can afford to quit working and put that kind of mileage on the bike... Still, having seen one in person, I must admit, to see a car tire on a bike, especially a sport-bike looking bike, looks.... TOTALLY GAY!!!!!!!!!! (not that there's anything wrong with that :D )

Nothing wrong with the 021 rear. Dual compound and solid 10k performer for most.

:questionmark: But if you win the lottery, you'll be able to afford all the tires you could ever need, so there's no reason to go to the Darkside.

Besides, lots of Darksiders just do the miles on the weekends. YourDayRideMV ;)

Tell me more Jeff. I like PR2s but the front gets that strange ridge in the middle near the end of it's life. I like the rear PR2 wear and thinking of trying one of the Pirelli Angels on the front with next change. What happens if I mix a front Angel and rear PR2? Is it ride, handling, wear issues or what?
