I'm going to order new tires tomorrow (for my 03) and I'm leaning towards the Avons. Any comments or suggestions??? I am also considering adding the Hyper Pro spring combo (fork and shock progressive springs, fork oil, and set-up instructions). I've heard good things about the kit and for $279.00 it seems to be a bargin especially for the 03 which was somewhat undersprung from the get-go. Any experience out there on that product as well? I'd appreciate any input. Thanks , ScottB

Avon AV45-46 Azaros lasted me 7500k and stuck like a cat on a rug- the Storms which replaced the Azaros were just as good but were toast at less than 6k.Brigestone 020's are good but show cord at 5.5. I will try the pricey Michelin Road 2 next-Mebee someone who has been using these will report on the mileage..

Pilot Road 2 = 10k miles for me (although I was pushing the front tire there for some reason). On twisty canyon roads, great in wet conditions. Got 6k on the stock bridgestones

Just did 9,527 on PR2's during the Spank rally. They're still on the bike, and should easily go another 2K or so.

3 days in the rain, no traction problems. Stick very well.

Try looking in the "never ending recurring pointless threads" for more info than you'd care to have about tires, oil, etc. Also, there is info on all the other things that you mention around somewhere. I am going to suggest now... as a newbie it will serve you well to learn how to find the info that pretty obviously has been beat to death. Otherwise you will experience repeated ridicule & wish that you had learned how to find the info that has probably been beat with a rubber hose.

Wishing you luck with your new bike & all of your projects.

You should'a opened your title with suspension (then mentioned tires toward the end; you might of had a chance).

Wow! That's impressive. I hope I do that well with mine. Glad to hear how well they are doing for you.

I also have a 03 and up until this year ran the AVONS and they are great tires. I did switch to the new Pilot Road 2 tires and like them even more. I would buy the PR2 if it were my money. As for suspension I have redone both my front and rear. I used race tech front springs and they are constant rake not progresive, I used the Hyperpro rear and it was custom made for my size and weight. If you want to talk more or just come see the bike let me know I will meet you some place close I livew in Hartford. I am not sure how far you are from me in Mass.

Just to add to whats already been posted thus far the Avons are superb. Very predictable and work well even when cold. Wet grip is great and they hold up pretty well on this beast! :)

My 06 came stock with the Metz's and while they were decent once they warmed up (took forever but still...) but they didn't compare whatsoever to the Avons. Even down to the pegs they are solid and confidence inspiring.

Taking the PR'2 out of the mix I think they are the best tire on this bike. JMHO though. They had some early reports of tire wobble on the fronts but that seems to have been limited to early production runs.

Look at swmoto or Ironpony for VERY good pricing on them.

PR2CT have been the best for me, followed by PR. The Roadsmarts went to crap real quick but did make over 5k with front no hands shake (40 to 50 mph) since new but worse as wear became a factor. Used 40 lbs front/42 rear & won't be buying them again . . .I ride like an little old lady from Pasadena though . . .

Put my first set of PR2's on in Prosser then rode to Mexicali then back home to BC. 2-up and loaded all the way. Showing very little wear after 4,000 miles.

Very impressed so far, especially that they did not "freeway flat" on the slab portions of the ride.

They didn't stick worth a **** on wet railroad crossings, but then nothing does!

Well, ok I love the PR2's but I will be lucky to get over 5000 miles out of a set. I should qualify, this is the most I have ever got out of a tire, the next closest in milage was the Strada's at 4000 & 4500. just to get an idea of my specs. I weigh about 165, ride reasonably aggressively and check my tire pressure regularly. I have never fount a tire more than 2 psi under (ususally the first check after tire mount) and I normally ride 38 in the fron and 39 in the back (cold).

PS I get them at https://www.derbycycles.com/ $258.00 /pair $15 shipping
