DangitallI I went to check my tire pressure, and my front weights just fell onto the ground :dribble: and they had been doing so well for the past 5k miles too. Rears look good and stuck still. I guess I know what I'm doing tonight, pulling and reballancing my front

Stick on weights or the ones that clip on the center of the rim?

look on the bright side of things, it could have come off when riding and could have had a chance of being flung into your radiator.

Well, if you know where they came off from then why not just stick them back on? Clean up the weights and the rim real good so there's no dirt or oil to prevent them from sticking and use some silicon goop to hold them on.

How much weight was it?

Like Geezer said, you should be able to see ( the mark) where the weight was. Just clean that spot and install a new weight. No need to pull the wheel.

I lost 3/4 quarters of an ounce off the front on 98 in Arizona on my way to NAFO. They were stick on weights. I don't think they were Z-rated. I never heard them come off as the wind noise at terminal FJR velocity precluded me from hearing anything than the rush of the wind. Replaced them upon arrival home. Never really noticed a difference with them off.

That's why I asked how much weight? If it's small enough, I wouldn't even worry about it.

You could just ride it and see if you can feel any vibration at 50-70 mph. If not, don't sweat the small stuff.

I Have experienced the same problem with stick on weights. I resorted to sticking them on with clear duck tap. It's not the most aesthetically pleasing solution, but it keeps the little buggers on.

Stick on weights, I can't remember if they were the ones that came with my HF changer, or my Mojo lever.

4 squares, I think that's 1 oz. I can see where they popped off from, but I can aslo see they've migrated from the center to the edge of the rim. I'd rather just remove the wheel, and reballance it propper to remove all doupt. Not to mention that after 5k miles, the tire may need more or less weight in a different spot.

I've got some RC Servo tape that I'm going to use, very tenacious stuff. First time I've had weights fall off, hope it's the last time.

I always get duct tape that matches as close to the wheel cover as I can and tape over the wieghts to help keep them from coming off.

The require that on race wheels on the track. Just carried it over to my street bikes.

I agree with others, if you can see where they were and know how much was there just replace. Should not need to remove the wheel to rebalance unless you really want to.

I might look into the duct tape thing, sounds interesting. Got a pic? And since I have the ability and the tools to change and ballance my tires, I'll be anal and reballance my front tonight B)

Here's another adhesive option. This stuff sticks tenaciously. 3M Moulding tape You can buy it at most auto parts places.

Just clean the area with some good solvent first.

You'll need to use "goo gone" to get the tape off before the next tire.

That's the key. Using wax or a spray on cleaner/polish makes wheels look good, but, it doesn't make a good surface for sticky stuff. I give it a shot of contact cleaner before putting on new weights.

me too. Clean it first, stick the wieghts and put the duct tape over it. Then use the spray polish

I recently ran out of weights so I peeled off my old stick-ons and reused them where appropriate, sticking them on with good old Elmer's rubber cement. I'm surprised they're staying in place. If it sticks for the full life of the tire, I think I may have found another way to be a cheap *** *******.

Being a CAB (Cheap Assed *******) is to be admired...

CABs Unite!! :yahoo:

When I got hope today, I pull the FJR into the back and pulled the front tire. Believe it or not, the weights were still on the rim after I picked em up off the ground earlier this morning and stuck em back on the rim! Hour later, and the tire is all ballanced with shiny new weights and a sparklie clean wheel. All is well with the world again. It looks like the weights started sliding away from the center, probably from the heat and speeds I was running thru Nevada and Idaho desert returning from NAFO. Sticky goo from the center all the way out to the edge! That duct tape is starting to look better :p
