I know this is a terrible thread to start, but need some of your advice. I have been running Avon storms and were real happy with the Avon Azaros. Well the front has developed a bump at low speeds. They have about 4K on them. I want to try something different. So I like burnng down a curvy road on the way hme, but spen most miles on the freeway. In the summer around here it hit 100 degrees a lot of the time. I ride in access of 80 mph a lot of time. I also weigh 285 lbs. Yea yea, I know ......loose weight. So as you can see I have the worst of all conditions for tires. So what would be a better choice: Perelli Strada, Michelin Pilot roads, or maybe those Continental Road attacks?

Stones didn't tend to last very long.

I am in your weight class, and ride semi-aggressively. I have had very good luck with the FJR specific Stradas. That is if you can deal with no warning bars in the middle of the tire. Personally I wait till I see cord and have driven 200 miles after that.

I'd include the Roadsmarts on your short list. I just put on a pair so I can't comment on longevity yet, but they feel as good or better than the Storms and Azaro both of which I liked very much. I can also report that they grip in the wet very well.

Lots af additional info here if you do a search. Good Luck.

Like you, the Azaro was my favorite tire and the Storms just didn't last as long with the front usually doing something funny. I did not like the old Pilot Road, and the Stradas were OK.

I would recommend trying either the new Pilot Road IIs, or the new Dunlop Roadsmarts. Though I have not ridden with either, both seem to be getting excellent reviews. I will be trying both in the future.

Thanks for the info. I think Ill try the Pilot road II. Now, where is the best deal. I bought my last tires at SW moto tire in Tucson. They are pretty cheap.

So how many miles are you guys getting from these tires before you see cord? I have 3,000 miles on my factory Bridgestones and don't expect to get more than 5k out of them. Needless to say I don't want another set of these. I once got 9,000 from a set of Metzlers Roadtec Z6's on a BMW K1200GT. That was with a 5,400 mile trip in 100 degree heat thrown in.

Just had a set of Dunlop Roadsmart's spooned on about 250 miles ago & so far, am really impressed. Turn in is particularly quicker . I weigh somewhat less than you but I ride aggressively also when I can. I'm assuming your suspension has been upgraded also? Mine is fitted with a Penske shock & just about ready for a fork kit from Traxxion Dynamics. My experience has always been that upgraded suspension always improves handling with added benefit of better tire wear.

I have it on fairly reputable authority that even a rather well-worn Pirelli is stable, smooth and comfortable at pretty extreme speeds. YMMV.

I cut up the rear Storm I recently took off- (for easy disposal) It was well into the wear bars, thats why I took it off. The front was better and more evenly worn.

My mostly commuting miles wear a sirnificant flat spot. Point is, even with wear bars showing there is still quite a bit of rubber left. This tire had 9700 miles on it at removal. FWIW.

Look at the twisty miles left on these. What a shame...

I usually run 42-43 rear.

Diablo Stradas for me on second set very good millage, sticky in wet or dry and I run 41-42 in the front and 45 rear and yes I am a fat bastard too....

Dude! 9700 miles on a set of Storms and you still had some tread left? Wow. I don't think my grandmaw could have got that much out of them. :p

FjReady,

Thanks for sharing your cross section of the tires, that was enlightening. Boy did you get some great service.

So far, I really like the PR2's but I don't have a cross section to share yet! :D
