Seems like Autocom is the way to go with communication systems if I want to:

1) Listen to music via iPod

2) Talk with passenger

3) Use cell phone

4) Talk with riders on other bikes that also have transeivers

It seems the mid-range product is more than adequate for this, is there a good reason to get the more expensive version? Is there another product out there that will meet my goals?

While I have been riding a long time, my wife has not. I have never bothered with intercom, radios etc. This is new for me and I thank you in advance for your feedback.

ditto on the active 7. got one a few months ago. great setup. I did get the adapter to use my earbud speakers (ER6i's) but it's all good. easy install, and great sound and it's nice to talk back and forth..

Is that the one that allows you to plug in the 3.5mm plug from the ER6's? What do you do with the excess wire? I would like to be able to just plug directly into the little left and right white colored plugs inside the helmet. It is just a very tiny guage wire to work with and I don't know where to find some of those white plugs. I don't want to cut the existing ear speakers in case my wire surgery doesn't go over to well.

After much reading of the different opinions of all the comm gear, I finally decided on the Starcom1. I have had it for almost a year now and it has performed flawlessly. Rider to pillion, XM Roady2, and even my cell phone. Everything works great. Glad I got it.

Thanks Defiant. I went and did some reading too, and at less than half the cost for the same feature set that I asked for, the Starcom1 seems a great answer! Thanks again for the tip!

I tried to get them at (don't)Buy(fromuscausewereallysuck).com... for about $90... they had a special lowering the price to $80... and free shipping... but then after I placed the order they told me they were out, and had no idea when they'd be in. After 2 weeks of waiting for them to get off the can, I cancelled the order and went to Comp-u-plus, who has them for about $90... only they charge out the ass for shipping.

There's a bunch for sale on Ebay for around $90 as buy-it-now offers. Shipping from them would have saved me about $10, but I needed them by Monday, so paid the extra. Got them yesterday, and will be testing them out this week...

I agree with Defiant. The Starcom1 has served me well. If you haven't yet purchased your ipod, think twice

about it, though. I started with an ipod mini but was very disappointed. It was difficult, almost impossible, for me to control it with that little menu wheel (while riding) and the battery life isn't that good. The only time I use it now is when the Roady2 looses reception, which isn't often.
