Abercrombariecormbie FJR has done the math correctly.

This seems to be an upcoming trend. Honda already has a bike like that on the show room floor. I've had a sit on one.

85 horsepower and about 67 ft/lb at the rear wheel with a wet Weight: 542 lbs

2013+Yamaha+XJR1300.jpg

The XJR1300 makes 96 horsepower and roughly 80 lb/ft of torque at the crank. That translates into the area of 89 HP at rear wheel with a wet weight 540 lbs.

give me an FJR ANY DAY of the week !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yup...This is Yamaha's answer to Honda's CB1100. That Honda is a cool bike. This new Yami is cool too, but I have no idea what I'd use it for. If I was rich, I'd buy one just to let my friends ride. Lol...

What would be cool about a naked superbike:

Get lots of air.

No problems with engine temps.

Cool in the summer heat of the southern states

Retro style never went out

Easy to work on stuff you can see.

The difference between 540 lbs and 650 lbs is quite tangible. It would be like me droppinbg off another passenger

Air cooled means no coolant issues

I like mechanical stuff and don't feel it needs to be hidden.

You will not total the bike from a simple 0mph drop when the bike is 12 years old because the tupperware adds up to thousands of dollars.

You can ride over the Golden Gate Bridge with (only) a watch cap on and pretend you are Bronson

What would be uncool about a naked superbike

You'll get cold in the winter

You'll get wet in the rain.

You'll get bug splats all year long

It doesn't look modern so all your metrosexual friends will not get it.

If it leaks oil, coolant, fluids of any kind you're going to see them

When you drop it important stuff gets bent or scuffed.

Wearing a full 'stich and modular full faced helmet looks dorky on one.

Friends? You have friends?

Honestly I think they are both cool bikes. IF I had lots of money and IF my wife did not hate me I could see myself owning one of these machines. I have no idea what I would use it for but they sure bring back some wonderful memories.

And I have no idea why the article showed 52 HP. As others have noted, 96 HP is the correct figure.

So..........
Pretty much a Hardley Abelson, under in Imports cloth..
Nope.

Brakes better than a Harley.

More stock HP at 96 than a Harley.

For sure handles better than a Harley.

Better suspension (Ohlins) than a Harley.

For sure less expensive to buy and maintain.

Actually nothing like a Harley.

Sounds like you may be part Mexican Andrew.. You have no clue what you'd use it for but by golly just like Pickle dik .. you want one.

I suggest you attach it to a box from an 87 ford Pickup and use it to haul the spring pickle harvest to market.

But that's just me..

I may be a pickle ****, but it's an enormous pickle. Like those ones you see on the counter at the convenience store. AND *******, if I was rich, I'd have "friends" crawling out of the woodwork. Some would only be allowed to ride the bike if they promised not to wear a helmet!

Golly gosh...reminds me a LOT of one of these...that happens to be sitting in the garage, next to the FJR.

.....'cept mine's about 145hp at the rear wheel and about 115lb/ft of torque. I think I'll keep it. :)

In fact the XJR1300 is not very new really, has been on sales in Europe for some time. When I bought my 08 FJR in 2009, it was already on sales and I did some test ride. Up to 50 mph it was ok, after that it is the same as all naked bikes - you feel like the wind will twist you off the bike any time soon.... Good to drive in the city but not comfy for any touring purpose.

Torque, in the other hand, is very nice indeed.

Umm, ain't dat the same bike as is under the cutie to the left, only majorly detuned and denuded...

Or a lot like the CB919 stable mate to my FJR.
