This K16 owner just bought his bike, it was his inaugural ride. He reported as to say that "he was fiddling with the wonderwheel, flipping though all the available screens and HE just lost complete focus".

I learned mine at home, sitting in the garage. It is quite mesmerizing with all the options and available choices. Well, this one was an expensive learning experience. wowsa.

Wow - that was horrible.....

I have to agree.... even with the new FJR - there are a bunch of screens.... not as bad as the K1600 but more then the 05 FJR... I took a large amount of time in the garage getting a feel for them - but also spent a bunch of time on the road by myself at slow speeds and no traffic so I could get a better feel for them...

After now having a good grasp for whats going on with all the different switches and screens, I don't really look at them anymore and I can feather through them very quickly. Know what you want to change - get there, make change quickly and eyes back on the road and mirrors.

I usually keep my screen on my windshield as I change that the most - everything else stays the same almost all the time...

As stated - Pay attention and keep safe....

Mother Honda won't let you do anything to the gps unless you are stopped. A real pain but doesn't hurt as much as the ditch on a new bike.

Are we sure he didn't just switch it all to "offroad mode" and go for a shortcut? Oh wait, that wasn't a GS, was it....

Also, thinking his pillion won't be so happy....they were 2 up.

Did his rear wheel come off? Yes, that's what happened - this was a recall issue.. as in I don't recall what happened after I hit the ground. I know, it has happened to me, I don't recall..

BMW doesn't let you do setups and configurations underway, but you can do the GPS. Controlling the Gips through the wonder-wheel is an easy task, but def not one to do on your first outing.

I think he was just "flipping" through screens in general.

That's a great doo-hicky link!. Some of those kinda reminded me of Greg (Geezers) dash. I hear he has since cleaned it up and it doesn't look like Grand Central Station anymore

I've seen people fiddling with their GPS or radio or some other device and have a close call, but I never saw anyone go down before from it. It sure is easy to become distracted with all the stuff we have on motorcycles. I hope they are OK.

I did clean up my dash a bit by going with bluetooth and deleting a bunch of wires.

Looks like he was avoiding the water and overdid it... easy to lose track of your line if you're busy looking at something else, like the road at the end of your nose!!

I think that's why I prefer my GPS instructions to come through the Bluetooth, I hate looking down at the damn GPS.

I never call someone on the phone but might answer SWMBO.

The Radar detector squawks and blinks loud enough that I don't even have to look at it.

When I first got my bike I found the screens on the FJR hard to use. Not so much anymore. Still possible to raise the windshield when I want more grip heat though ;-)

Ouch! A tough lesson to learn....for him. An easy one for everyone else who watches the video.

I keep my GPS high enough that I can see it at a glance. I use the speed indicator on the GPS rather than look down for the speedometer. The only time I look down at the instrument cluster is when I'm checking the fuel gauge.

If I'm f___ng with the gps too much I get a sharp pain in the ribs. Momma does not like it when my helmet isn't looking straight ahead. ;)

What about this French Moto Journalist? Maybe the camera was the distraction..

Hope he was OK. Looked like a long drop..

He's lucky he didn't go right into that river down below. I rode a friend's older GS 1200 for a while today. The damn thing has two turn signal buttons, and a third button just below the right side turn button that cancels whichever one is blinking. I had to keep looking down to find the cancel button--real easy to mix them up if you're not used to it. And that was just one new thing to keep track of. What a boneheaded setup, for my money.

Plus the bike didn't feel like it had any more poop than my old 650 KLR. Overrated, these Beemers.

Fixed 'er :)

Since the K16 is king of dashes and electronics and bowed down to as such, I had to make you smart-ter

But apparently I don't have enough distraction, I just purchased a tank ring mount to mount my iPad4. It always comes along for the ride anyways (on long trips), so this way, it now will pay it's way. Most likely w Waze up on the display. I also have a Lifeproof waterproof case for it. Should work fine except for those direct sunlight days where it might go into thermo off for awhile, maybe then I'll strip the LP case off.
