I have to admit, I like the looks of the V47 much more than the 52 that I have.
Please keep in mind that the Superior Liquid Graphite of the Highly Superior 2015 ES is going to look good no matter what box is on it.

And thank you ionbeam for posting that pic. Last night Photobucket would not work for me and that was the pic I was going to post.

I'm overwhelmed!

Lots of good responses and a clear direction. The pictures and links are particularly helpful.

I had a Givi case on my '83(?) Midnight Maxim and found it rugged and very useful so that's the way to go.

Going to pick up my bike in half an hour!

I bet you are so excited you can't see straight. Enjoy, post us some pictures when you get home.

RE: your question about whether the side cases are waterproof--

Yep. Mine are literally water and air proof. When I drop down a big mountain pass my side cases will vacuum shut from the pressure change and I have to gently pry them open. First time that happened I forever more quit wondering if any water could ever get in there. The locking mechanism is complex, but the seal is impressive.

Are the side cases that come with the bike waterproof?
Not only are the side cases waterproof, when you put a 6-pack in the side case and all the bottles break on the way back to the hotel the bags don't leak either  Fortunately, this is known by observing other not so lucky FJR owners.

graler posted: I have a twisted throttle pelican case attachment. There is a plate that mounts on the rear three bolts. Then there is a frame that attaches to the pelican case. I am not home at the moment (wont be home til Friday) but I believe I have a 1550 pelican case on there. Not deep enough for a helmet but nice a square for a laptop. The pelican is crazy sturdy I traveled with one for years with delicate and expensive fiber optic test gear. Now that I am just a sales guy I use it to carry money

The base plate allows the pelican case to slide on and off even with a lock cylinder. I did just add a stiffy kit given that the mounting plate is steel and the pelican case is heavy whe it's empty. All of that with the side cases and a smuggler trunk I have plenty of storage. Now if I could find time to ride.
I have a Pelican Case 1520 on mine. I got it from petey, so that makes my bike even faster than regular FJRs. It came with the 3-bolt mounting plate that graler mentioned, and mates perfectly with garauld's stiffy kit installed. The case is waterproof and drop-proof (!), and its flat top serves as a convenient table for drinking and eating or when witnesses sign your 50CC application.

Plenty big enough for a laptop, even with a 1/2-inch thick foam pad in the bottom. Every day it carries a liter water bottle, coffee thermos, spare gloves, homemade boxes with pens/wallet/iPhone/carved heart from a special girl/bulldog clips, couple of SlimJims, full-size BMR placard, and either my briefcase and laptop (when commuting) or bike bag with BMR notebook and paper itineraries (when joyriding).

It does look like a black Pelican Case, but I think that's a very appropriate look for a Liquid Graphite touring bike.

I notice some V47 cases have red colored lenses and some have clear. Do either case accept the LED rear lighting option?
The V47 comes with the red reflectors, the V47 Tech and the V47NN Tech have the silver reflectors. Givi option E135 is the LED Stop Light kit. The AdMore light kit is generally considered much better than the Givi lights but its cost is twice as much after adding the FJR adapeter harness.

AdMore sez:

Each LED array is equipped with high-powered bi-color (Red/Amber) LEDs. The mini controller embedded in the power harness allows you to connect the light kit to your bike's tail and brake lights and turn signals! The case lights are always on when riding, the lights brighten to high intensity when the brakes are applied, and the right or left side of the case lights flash amber with your turn signals! This kit has an added safety feature: it is programmed to quickly modulate (flash) your kit brake lights three to four times when you apply your brakes to alert the driver behind that you are braking.

Photo 1, somewhere near Atlanta, Arkansas:

Photo 2, NM 146, just south of I-10. No power lines and no other traffic, so why not just park in the middle of the highway?

Don't want to drift too far away from the thread's intent but I believe lense color on the V47s doesn't change the lighting option. I also got a close look at an Admore install recently. A project for this year may be to figure out how to make my own harness with brighter LEDs.

The E135 and AdMore lights fit all the V47 trunks, regardless of lens color. The AdMore kit probably wouldn't be real swell on the V47 trunk with the red lenses due to the yellow turn signal LEDs.

Any LED harness will need to use LEDs with built-in drop resistors or an in-line power supply to manage the voltage.

**Slight Drift**

I've got the V46 Tech case with a full Admore kit installed. With the FJR adapter, installation was a snap and the kit has been stone reliable. Having extra lights higher up doesn't hurt either!
