Hi...

I inadvertently used my torque wrench to loosen

the oil filter on my '05 for the first oil change.

I don't remember what the setting on the wrench

was when I used it, but it's a $70 Craftrsman from

Sears, so maybe I should just get another one

instead of worrying about re-calibrating.

What's YOUR advice?

Jim

Stop worrying....

+1 on the dtop worrying...

What would make you think popping the drain plug loose with your torque wrench would alter the calibration?

All of my torque wrenches are from Precision Instruments ( https://www.torqwrench.com/ ), and according to them any and all of their torque wrenches can be used in either direction except for "C" type pre-set production-line type torque wrenches. Those are designed to only work one direction and at a single torque setting for production line environments.

Here's an excerpt from their FAQ at https://www.torqwrench.com/Info/FAQ.html:

Question: Which torque wrenches work in both directions?
Answer: ALL torque wrenches other than the "C" series work in both directions. The "C" series works only in the clockwise direction, except the C4D600F series’ ratchet can be flipped over to allow for counter-clockwise applications. The accuracy of the D and QT series is the same clockwise and counter-clockwise, but other wrenches may have different specifications based on direction.

Remember, most tools you get readily available from vendors like Sears will be for the most universal applications, and there are plenty of left-hand threaded fasteners in the world, too.

Hope this helps!

I've calibrated a lot of torque wrenches including sears. Agree with the above posts, you didn't harm your wrench.

And.... get a breaker bar.

Thanks ladies and gents for the advice, and...

FlyingLow, that'll be a +1 on the breaker bar.

Thanks again one and all...
