I went to the Motorcycle Show this weekend and met Lee Parks and some of his guys. We were shooing the shit and of course the classes came up. Here's what they offered.

  • Need a minimum of 12 riders.
  • $275 instead of the $295.
  • One of their suspension guys would be there for free suspension tuning. Meaning using your existing suspension and getting the settings right for you.
  • An extra hour of training.
  • Possibly lunch included.
  • The location would be in Villa Park, IL.

Now, this was basically just a "here's some things we can do for you" because I told them i wanted to do the class but the dates never worked for me. Absolutely nothing is set in stone, this was a totally casual conversation that ended with me saying I'd gauge interest to see if it would work. I might be able to ask for more, or a bigger discount, not sure what to ask for though. No idea what the date would be yet.

I live semi-near Villa Park, hour-ish away and a few people could stay at my place if you were coming from farther away. I'm only trying to get a feeling for how many people would be interested and if we could pull it off and get our own class. It's just an idea and if comes together without too much hassle I'd be stoked to do it.

So, if you're seriously interested post up. but NO PROMISES.

I'd be interested in joining the frey..... is this at a track ? link for track....

Not far from ya in Milwaukee ish, would make for a nice run down and stay overnight.....

I'd love to see something like this happen up at Road America on Track Day....

Also - not sure how much they can offer up for us guys with the ES suspension LOL

Its a great course. It is done in a parking lot type of setting. class then practice. i originally read the book but the class really helps emphasize things that i did not quite interpret right from reading the book.

Yes Lee or one of his guys holds the (one or two day) clinic in a parking lot. I attended one in Springfield, MO 4-5 years ago.

I'm interested but my interest is strongly predicated on the "When?" As I have a lot of chit already scheduled.

It's not a track, my guess is it's a big parking lot. I'll check.
You would be correct, it's in a parking lot.

I am what you might consider not one of their satisfied customers. Mine was at Road America and I just felt a lot more could of had been better accomplished on a track. Did absolutely nothing to improve my confidence to what it once was. Parking lots just aren't a scary place to ride.

Just my 2 cents.

I am bummed you didn't get anything out of it. I can say that taking the class in 2006 made the single biggest difference in my riding. A HUGE difference. From taking a class in a parking lot......

I was also at the bike show, but I guess I got lost in the shuffle. Villa Park is not all that far from me. Depending on the "when" I'd be interested. I'm pretty sure I know another guy who would also be very interested.

Considering that most often low speed incidents are the most frequent problem I think a parking lot is quite appropriate.

I've been riding for a lot of years, but nobody ever really showed me the right way. I have decades of habits, must most likely they are bad ones.

Put me down for 2 spots.

Thanks,

Dave

Parking lot manuevers are essential for the basics of any motorcycle rider skills. Everyone that rides a bike needs to know they can pull a figure 8 in a tight space without dumping their machine. We have at least 2 parking lot-type training settings in AZ, Team Arizona and Arizona Drill Team, of which I have taken both at the 'experienced' level and I got a ton out of both. Anyone can fly down a freeway or whip through corners. These courses teach you situational awareness and proper slow speed manuevering, crutial to everyone's basic skill set. Even when you have 30 years of riding experience, there's always a forgotten basic concept to be regained or acquired bad habit to let go of. My 2 cents.
