Ok we need some ideas and insider info. last year my wife and I rode to SD for our anniversary trip it was great but a bit cool since we took our Motorport suits and not the Roadcraft suits. Was a great ride, but we want to plan a bit better for this trip. The time we have set aside is May 14th till May 25th. We thought Sedona AZ would be a good home base for day trips. We are giving our self 3 days there. We would like to check out some microbreweries and some interesting places with great roads. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Yeah we home brew so the microbreweries are of a special interest.

Well.... lesseee, besides all the obvious great scenery around Sedona, Oak Creek Canyon is a must and come to think of it, all of Hwy 89A is worth the ride. I'd leave Sedona, take 89A to Clarkdale (Verde Valley Train is cool) then to Jerome (check out the 2 block long old mining town) then over Mingus Mtn. to Prescott. If you have time for a side trip, take 89 south through Prescott down to the Yarnell Grade (watch for LEOs) hang a U at the bottom of the grade, return back up to Kirkland Rd, then Skull Valley Rd North (turns into Iron Springs Rd.) then find your way back to 89 and head North to I-40. East on I-40 to Flagstaff, south on I-17, exit at 89A, run through Oak Creek Canyon and back to Sedona. If you partake of the Verde Valley RR, that'll shoot about half a day so might put that on another day's agenda. Obviously running North of Flag on 180 to the Canyon is a must if you've never seen it. I'm sure some of the loco locals will chime in for more pointers. HTH

Thank you for the great tips. We can't wait to ride some of those roads. What are the temps in the region in May?

Arizona is all about great roads, save for parts in Phoenix and Tucson and between the two.

Suggestions: I can't speak much for the ride beteween FL and TX, but you might want to take in Big bend NP in TX and ride on through Cloudcroft in NM on your way to AZ. via Silver City. Once you are in AZ, take Rt.191, the Devil's Highway, from Morenci north to Springerville if you can. You can cut west over to Sedona from Springerville.

Sedona Has Oak Creek Brewery, and there are four breweries in Flagstaff: Mogollon (wholesale only, but the local bars carry the brand), Flagstaff Brewery, Beaver Street Brewery and Lumberyard Brewery. All are within staggering distance, so park the bike and get a room downtown.

The weather in the high country is quite variable, so pack gear for cold as well as hot rides. Have fun! WBill

Weather in the Arizona high country can be a crap shoot in May and early June. Several years ago, a friend tried to ride the Devil's highway Memorial Day weekend (also from FLA) and ran into 2 feet of snow! If a snow plow hadn't come along, he might still be there. On the other hand, a couple of years ago we found temps in the 3 digit range in the same area. Just keep a close eye on the weather channel. Once in Sedona, weather things tend to be more moderate. WBill had good information on the Brewery scene.

I did a ride from Phoenix to Tallahassee and back. Going out we did Cloud Croft through Texas to Shreveport, to Vicksburg, down the Natchez Trace to New Orleans, and across the Gulf. The return was to Barber Motorcycle Museum, Memphis, and across Arkansas, Oklahoma and Texas on US70 to NM, then US 60 back to Phoenix. If we had more time, Big Bend would have been in the route somehow.

I sure will give you a PM. Thank you Beemerdons.
https://www.fjrforum.com/forum//index.php?showtopic=136760&st=0&p=844509&hl=+devil's%20+highway&fromsearch=1entry844509 Every Spring we ride The Devil's Highway, if I know two weeks ahead of time when you and your wife anticipate arriving in Eastern Arizona, I will set up a Clubs Ride for both Southwest FJR Forum and AZ Beemers. We really enjoy staying at the Sportsman's Lodge in Alpine, we could overnight there and ride '666' in both directions! The Dragon is an absolute "joke" compared to The Devil's Highway! https://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g29031-d1806984-Reviews-Sportsman_Lodge-Alpine_Arizona.html
